I bought 2 sets from DDM (55W, compact ballasts) and for the most part, I'm pleased.

I have installed 3 other brands of HID kits over the years and the quality if these DDM kits are good. The only complaint that I have is that I ordered 5K kits for both high/low beams and the low beam color is dead on (from the looks of things) and true to description. My high beam kit seems like it's a 6K color lamp. They have a blueish tinge to the color when fully warmed up. There is a definite difference between the two.

I have 6K color lamps in both my truck and my wifes car, so, I'm familiar with the color. If I had to do it all over again, I would have used the 35W kits and saved a little wattage. I don't think with the projectors that the 55W is really needed.

Shipping was decent with DDM but one kit was lacking instructions that I didn't need anyway. I'd definitely buy from them again and stay away from the Flea-Bay sellers that are out of country.

Blue, I'm on my way to Eletrosonics looking for new connectors. The plug ends that come with those units are a poor fit at best. I'm going to install my other sets in my truck. Will let you know what I come up with.Cheers

My wife has HID's in her Lexus and I love them, hard to drive a car without after that experience. Something like watching HD TV at home. Hard to go back to standard definition TV.

Well, I got my HID set from DDM tuning today. They shipped the kit out right away. I had problems with one of the connectors, one of the pin connection, female side was damaged when they installed it. I had to finagled the pin out of the connector housing, but in doing so, the wire came loose from the crimped connected end. So I had to basically rebuild the pin connections by added soldering to the crimped area. Also the wires in the connectors needed to be reversed in order for the lights to work. The polarity was reversed. This needed to be done in order for the connector of the ballast extension wire to fit the factory head light bulb connection correctly. I did request the 5000K bulbs thinking that they would be pretty white in color, but they are slightly blue, bluer than my wife's Lexus HIDS. I could of gotten the 4500K, maybe that would be whiter, something that I was really looking to have.
But in the end the lights make a world of difference from the stocks one, one of the best $65 spent and a worth while mod for sure.

Glad that worked for ya-this "connector"problem is definitely something they(all)should correct.I had to remove the plug housings and fit the prongs into the stock lamp connectors-then silicone in so they wouldn't move.I've got the 6000K lumens on mine-VERY BRIGHT WHITE LIGHTS.No blue tint at all.They're 55w as well.Got pics here somewhere on this forum.Take care-ride safe!

DDM Tuning has some good information, and one of the things they have is a comparison of 35w to 55w. A 55w 6000k washes out to around a 4000k 35w in appearance. They recommend going 1-2k higher on 55w than the color you want the beam to be. Because the 55w bulbs *are* much brigher than the 35w bulbs.

The 55w bulbs also throw off a lot more heat than the 35w bulbs. Which might eventually be a problem in small headlight compartments.

I installed the 35w kit with the 5k temp bulbs, but according to their web site chart, they should of been the whitest white, noontime white. But mine are allot bluer that I would of liked.
I can not confirm if the bulbs that I ordered are the right ones. There is no markings on them that I could see.

OK...... Anyone replaced their HID bulbs using the DDM system parts from their web site?

Also, now that the headlight are so bright, and the running light are so yellow, what has anyone done with the running lights. I think I'll have to look into some LED'S for them.

Anyone know the part number off hand of the running lights?

Hi Extra,

I changed out mine for 1 watt white LED's. They match the color of my 6000K HID's.

Absolutely, even though I have HID low beams, the high beams are PIAA H9 Xtreme White

I am running the same set up on mine. The HID's are just what this bike needed. I also changed out the marker bulbs to 1 watt led's from this place: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=CAR

It is part number WLED-NWLX and the cost is 9.95 each. I got them in natural white which has a 6000k color temp that matches my HID's. These things are way bright!

I just ordered the LEDs myself, had them bookmarked from way back when the old ZX14 forum was rocking. To this day, I still don't know why the old forum shut down suddenly. For my part, I'd have been willing to make a donation or whatever.

Anyway, this is a good thread, and next month I'll order my HIDs from DDM Tuning and probably a BackOff for the brake light. One piece at a time, but eventually I'll get it to where I want it. Heh.

got the leds for the running lights, base number 194, but they do not seem to go in deep enough to stay in the base.

Yes I did. Those sockets are very deep. I trimmed them down a bit. First I scribed a line around the OD using a utility knife. Then I used line dykes to remove the plastic. I also used a bit of silicone around the socket after I pushed the LED in. I did this because of something that happened once with the stock bulb and unmodified socket. I had the stock bulb vibrate out and get stuck in the headlight housing. Big P.I.T.A to remove so I figure a little glue goes a long way.

Note: Let the silicone dry completely before reinstalling the bulb back into the housing. If you don't, it will cloud the inside of the lens. Found this out the hard way too.

OK I thought that I would need to glue them in also, didn't want to have the bulb dislodge inside the housing.
I tried so hard to get one in the bass, it started to split apart. I may have to get another one so that I don't loss a bulb in there.

With some help from Blue07 a few weeks ago I installed a set of HID's from DDM and they were so good I purchased another set for the high beams. The marker lights look like they where orange after the install of the HID's so I tried to purchase a set of white led bulbs from LightEyes.com...what a WASTE of my time that was...I ordered the bulbs on 8/2/09 and here it is 8/19/09 and still no bulbs and after nurmerous emails to the company with no replies I reported them to paypal and we shall see what happens.

I ordered a set of PIAA marker lights of ebay and they arrived yesterday so I started the install last night and the markers look great nice and white. I also started the install of the high beam HID's but room is limited, I installed the low beam with very large zip ties and strapped the ballasts to the air duct system on the bike and seemed to to work just fine. Now I have to find a good spot for the High Beam set.

I was thinking about piggy backing the 2 ballasts one on top of the other but a friend said that might create to much heat and burn the units out??? Does anyone know if this would be the case?

There is enough room under the windshield to put two of the slim style ballast and starters from DDM Tuning, that's where mine are at now.

Hey Extrapilot do you have both your ballasts attached to one another?

I just wondering if I connect both ballasts together will this shorten the life span of the lights due to over heating, or even worse make them get so hot that they could start a fire?

They are loosely jammed under the windshield, but not touching together. I will have to check to see if they are getting real hot, I'm not sure how hot they get, never left them on long enough to check the heat out of them.

Funny..I'm working on them now. If you got the bulbs that are listed above in REDTRACE's post, which are the same that I also got, you need to modify the base, it's called the holder in the parts diagram. I had to take a small dremel wheel and enlarge the socket end to fit these bulbs. Incidental the real part number for these is not 194/168 T3 1/4,
(T3.25) the old oem bulbs have a part number 37 on the base and it's called a T1 3/4 (T1.75) size. This is why I had issues with getting them into the sockets. Your bulbs will work, just enlarge the socket like I stated above. DO NOT TAKE OFF THE PLASTIC COVERING ON THE NEW BULB BASE, like I did. They need to be insulated from the side copper contacts or your have a shorted connection. Also, once you get the fit good, use some RTV silicone glue to secure the bulb further. I hear that they are a real bitch to get a loose bulb out of the housing. Do not put any extra glue on the holder, as it is a real tight fit at the light housing hole when reinstalling.

Yes where you see the yellow part, that's where the light comes out of, very bright, you will like them.

Hey Snuff, I installed the highs and lows and purchased a pair of cheapo 194(blue color) from Smautozone and it looks great up close but from afar you can never tell I have the 194s there......

As for putting them on top of each other, i have the ballast for the highs and lows installed under the windscreen, side by side and stacked on top of each other, and I haven't had any problems just yet!!! I have done some riding with both highs and lows on but not alot....but i have yet to notice a problem!!! i know there are a few others that have mounted them the same way and haven't heard any complaints on here from them yet!
