the battery will eventually flat line. I'm guessing that means die lol

Ya, But ,,,, I don't remember reading that little tid bit of info when we bought these batteries. Maybe it was there and I missed it. In any case Those words should be in BIG RED letters on the box when you open it. "If you leave your lights on for any reason a new Battery is Required". Wow.

My wife always shuts her bike off with the kill switch. I can't count how many times I have seen the bike with the lights left on. She is not getting one lol.

Conditions Not Covered

Using a battery model other than what is recommended by the Shorai "Battery Finder".

Over-voltage charging, or other error by charger or user setting of charger.

Use in excess of cranking (CCA) specifications

Short circuit of main terminals or BMS port

Improper connections to the 5-pin BMS port

Over-discharge (i.e. resting voltage allowed to fall below 12.8V/6.4V for Lfx 12V/6V types)
Physical Damage to the pack occurring after purchase (impact, water/salt corrosion, etc)

I hope they continue to honour warranty of the 14AH as it WAS in the Battery Finder. Yikes.

Lead/acids are heavy and old tech but they have one advantage, when they fail they almost always give some advance notice. If you get caught out with a dead L/A you proabably ignored the warning signs.

My stocker just up and quit with no warning. few tries on the starter totally drained it. Would not charge up and would not even power up the the multi func. Just lucky I was at home. I think a battery tester is the next tool I will be buying.

OK Scottjkyl, wasn't the tsunami in like March of this year? Does this mean earlier batts like mine from early January are not affected? This makes no sense cause Romes jumped in right after me but maybe I'm wrong on the time frame cause he said five months? Maybe I dodged the bullet here, sure hope so. Still crankin like new, fingers crossed.

Still don't know when to rebalance the cells with the Shorai Charger, it's not in their FAQ section.

I went back and checked, I installed mine on January 15 and Romans five days later on the 20th. Something not adding up here with the sales managers tsunami story. Romans bat was built long before then.

It's quite possible your battery internals are....hate to say it...CHINESE.They're flooding our market with stuff....labeled with 'other' company names and such....but their stuff is ,well, not that reliable(?).Anyone know who this "shorai" company really is...or where it has holdings and all?I don't think Japan would be 'above' farming out for materials and labor....maybe I'm wrong.

And I hope your battery Kruz holds up nicely .I'm pretty sure that Turntec I bought was...well...a gimmicky deal.Quite spendy as well.It no longer lives here.

Yup, that was another kick in the hairy kiwis. Thank you sir, may I have another lol.

Blue, I was looking at the TurnTech when I had them all side by side. The Turn Tech battery posts are at least 1/8 thick. Shoria is a 32 at best,,,,,, Thin for 275 cranking amps, to thin ? Melted off inside ?

Thanks Blue, almost 9 months so far and I really like my Shorai, zero issues and from what is posted on the other forums, most others are very happy with their batteries performance. There's been only three failures I am aware of, Romes, Jkyl and Garth. I plan on sticking with these batteries but it does sound like you have to learn their quirks. Every battery has special needs, Lead Acids sulfate and self-discharge rapidly, Nickel-Cadmium cells have to be deep cycled periodically to prevent cell memory and they can overcharge and go into thermal runaway. Now these Lithium Iron batteries have their own special handling characteristics, learn to deal with it or don't buy one I say. Don't know for sure what's happening here but if you flatline a battery and kill it, it's usually caused by cell reversal. Nicads would do this but only if discharged to near zero volts. We've used them for over 30 years on aircraft without issue once you learn how to handle them.

BTW, I have gotten no response yet from Shorai on my questions, we'll see what they say.

Whoops, did a Google search on "Shorai Battery Failure" and found this peach. Owner says Shorai is picking up the tab for the repairs to his bike though so kudos to them. There is some reasonably intelligent discussion on the thread about possible cause being related to the rather crude Regulator/Rectifier units motorcycles use. It seems possible that Shorais have a narrower operating window and will not tolerate an overvolt situation as well as the old lead/acids would. This is all just speculation.

You mention an 'overcharge' situation. My bike kicks out 14+ riding.IF that IS an overcharging scenario....could be pretty bad IF the bike caught fire or something(like in that pic).Bummer.Romes mentioned a 32nd inch post thickness(SOUNDS kinda thin?)Stress that thing with cranking amps, then cruise out there at 14+ volts...IDK....IDK if that's okay or not.I guess so.Most of the buyers are having good results, yes?I'm just sticking with my Furakawa. At 70 dollars...it's okay.I got about (at least) 2 1/2 years outta my stock battery. That was also NOT being run for half the year, and NOT having a charger on it.Maybe could have gotten a lot more had I had a tender at that time?Naturally with the clock running and such, she died pretty soon after putting her to bed.Next riding time....I jumped her from a good bat,she fired right up and worked fine for another long while.I guess if ya have to let your bike sit...maybe best to remove the power cable?IDK.

Blue, I'm currently running the batt from 2007 which sat on a shelf in garage with no love what so ever. Works fine,,,I know the plates have a time limit sooooo,,,, pushing again soon. This time I will hear the slow start and boggie home.

Wife mailed back Shoria today but by the time I get a new one back it will be Frozen lol. 11c this morning.

Shame to say but I'm thinking I will get Turbo Bike dialed in and light weight batts will be for race day only. Lets face it they are to much trouble.

If it were not for SHORIA Awesome customer service(so I here)I would deff say DON'T DO IT. Yes I'm turning my back on them. Once again been there done that GOT the T-Shirt. Starts out Great but,,,, I hope the rest of you do ok. Once again, my batt may have been a one off situation .

Back to my old pet peeve, Rotors. Just spent 700,,,, AGAIN 4 sets now. Ugh will post if worth posting lol Yes I drive like a Idiot. I can here your thoughts u know lol.

Romans! Are you running stock Rotors?....listen...I'm using the EBC Pro-Lite XC's and the Kawasaki front sintered pads(stock on the 14).Awesome combo.I think it was 255 per one rotor.I think.Close to that anyway.Been going great now for ,well, since last year.Only removed the pads recently to get any 'pic' outta em(which you should do if changing rotors...but I put it off)..'sanded'(whet stone...unoiled)the pad faces up nice and clean and smooth.Back to a fine smooth braking again. No hint of pulsing or judder at speed braking,or any other time.

here in the uk a lot of guys use these discs from pfm, the hub of the disc is a one off buy, if you manage to wreck the disc itself for what ever reason you can just replace the rotor, sorry to hi jack the thread

Somehow...this thread morphed into a rotor topic! Okay...so I'll steer it back where it was...For KRUZ....I read a write up recently in Cycleworld about some 'testing' on their new sportbikes. The Shorai was stock in some of them...and the testers said the battery was doing very well...no problems.

The real testers are all right here(you guys). Time is still telling the tale on the SHORAI.

Paid 25 bucks to ship it back(ouch). How much you want to bet I pay 25 more to get it back again. Or, should I say if I get it back again. For some reason I'm still paying. Life. I'm a slow learner lol. Not much more to add but back on topic. Sorry guys.

Have them drop ship The new battery to me and I'll pay you for it, my 14 is about due for a new batt. I think you're battery was a fluke, hundreds of these are out there now and most love 'em. I rode my CBR this evening, cranked like crazy....I'm stayin put.

" Most Love 'em " Kruz don't misunderstand, I love love love what this batt has to offer and I'm banking on mine being a fluke.

CBR this evening, cranked like crazy....I'm stayin put.

Yes, but remember mine was cranking like crazy too and then,,,,, it just wasn't. Light Switch now off.

ship The new battery to me and I'll pay you for it,

Thanks for the offer Kruz but my situation is this; Rode the Turbo 14 in the morning then Parked bike. Immediately Stole the Marshesini wheels and SHORAI battery from non turbo 14. Then, went out again 4hrs later. WOW WOW Wow. All that weight taken off made a BIG BIG difference. Can't go back now. Light weight is Crack cocaine in the bike world and yes I'm hooked.

By the time I get the SHOAI back I will have over 325 dollars into it. That part sucks, but will be a great Track Day battery for me. Thank -You Anyway Bro. Your a good man, Free plugs ???? lol couldn't help it Boooo, I know.

I'm a bit confused here, you had two Shorais? Which failed, the original you installed in the non-turbo or the new one in the turbo bike? Anyway, glad to hear that they will take care of you and get you a new battery. I really want these Shorais to work. Mines still working fine, if it will go two full years I'll be happy.

Yes, I moved the only Shorai I have over to Turbo bike in a effort to lighten the bike.

The idea was to move light weight parts over as quick as possible and then go for a ride. Was very curious to see what the difference would be with Batt and wheel change all being done at one time. Results were Sweet. Loved it. Two weeks later Battery goes out. Heavy Clunker now back in, all good but, not same.

I really hope this works out. Look forward to the day when one gram plutonium pellet power the works lol. Good Times.
