If anyone is looking, I think the tail piece part number for green is 36040-0059-17P.

I don't know if that's totally right, though. It is listed as the 2009 part.

I'm still trying to decide if I want to go through all of this for luggage, or just get soft bags and use painter's tape to protect the paint on trips. I'm lucky if I get one trip a year; it's not like I am always on the road.

what is the euro tail cover needed for? are we talking about the seat cover?

My life is not a journey with the intent of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather I will skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out loudly proclaiming... WOW What a Ride!!!

It is the small rectangular upside down plastic triangle that sits flush with the female v-shape of the tail light. The stock piece will no longer fit correctly.

I've just bought a ZX-14R a bit over a week ago and very much like the idea of those V35 sidecases. Lawlist now that you have had them on for some time have you noticed anything from extended use like heat issues from the exhaust, etc.?

I appreciate the quality write-up you did as well for your project, I intend to use the same parts:
KFT.08.514.150 - SW Motech sidecarrier (twistedthrottle explicitly says these do NOT fit the zx-14r, are these definitely what you ended up using?)
V35NT - tech sidecases

Thanks again!

You control the distance between the pipes and the baggage with a homemade bracket. Mine are about 1.5 inches distance from the pipes -- the plastic gets little warm, but that's about it. I wanted the pipes as high as possible, but they certainly could have been dropped more than I did. My writeup is for the 2012 ZX14R -- Twisted Throttle will not openly endorse a product that requires lowering the tail pipes. The part numbers that I listed are the ones I bought and installed in 2012. Unless the product has changed since that date, they should still be the same.

My recollection is that the picture from the post dated `06/05/12 11:43 PM` was with the pipes lowered more than I ultimately decided to keep, and I raised them up a bit after taking that photograph. That required me to use an angle grinder to cut away part of that circular mounting hole so that I could fit the bolt through the cut-away portion of it. The other side of the bike doesn't even have a mounting bracket at that portion of the exhaust pipe, so that area is not critical in my opinion. Tightening the bolt with a washer has held it in place just fine for the last 2 years.

I just got my SW Motech racks installed on my 2012 and my Two-Bros pipes are too close to the bottom of the V35 side cases. The right one has like ΒΌ" gap and the left one is actually touching just barely. I'd like to lower the pipes, how far do you need to drop them? Accounting for the flex of the luggage when fully loaded and possibly shaking as if going over rough pavement, as well as suspension and frame vibration or flex.

I'd guess with carbon fiber cans that stay cool to the touch all I need is a small air gap. 1" roughly should be sufficient, no?

With stock pipes, one inch is sufficient (in my opinion). The very end of the stock pipe has a decorative silver trim that is closer to the bottom of the bags than the rest of the pipe, and that decorative trim is about 3/4 of an inch away from the bag -- the main pipe (at it closest point) is one inch away from the bag.

This is what I did this weekend. At the link I've posted pictures of the brackets I fabled from .0625 mild steel, painted black enamel, and installed. I tested it with the V35's for my first time and rode about 15 miles. They work fantastic! Don't want to hijack this thread so I'll leave it at that. Thanks for your help!!

@Bradley427 -- Looks like you did a very good job on your installation. I'm glad it worked out well for you. Perhaps you could add a couple of pictures with the luggage bags on and a shot to demonstrate the clearance that you ultimately decided on.

Lawlist - I updated the thread at the link from my previous post here. It now contains the pictures you requested. Seems like there's plenty of clearance now. If I had to guess, around 2.5" or more. I never measured. But I'm more than comfortable running the bags stock with no heat reflective tape on the bottoms. There is no need. Thanks for the compliments on my work. The first prototype is always the ugliest of the bunch. If I were to make another set I know a couple things I could do to make them look even better. Overall for a cost of $0 they look just fine. Very little is visible behind the SS washers and hardware anyways. For free....I'll run them

Do all V35's have removable panels you could paint yourself?

Lawlist -- thank you for the information. I like the way your bike is setup. I am surprised though, no sport touring windscreen? I think that is the first thing I am doing here in the next week. Then again, we have much more weather to deal with up here. If the wind blowing through my viser was 65-75 instead of 40-55, I am not sure I would be as quick for the change out of screens..lol. One of my best friends lives in San Diego and just bought a new KTM Adventure and is always sending pics of riding around the canyons of So Cal. Makes me want to pay a visit down that way.

@KurtG68o -- On the previous page, you can take a look at the picture of my bike with the Zero Gravity Sport Touring windscreen, with a secondary MRA-Xcreen bolted on top to give it an extra 6 inches of height. After the first trip to Las Vegas from Los Angeles, I bought the windscreens and haven't regretted it:
