Apparently the H2R is illegal to use anywhere in the UK, even race tracks 'cos it's just too loud!

Damn, that sucks. I really have GOT to hear this thing. I can't believe it could be much louder than my bike....and my bike doesn't bother me....

Akrapovic are working on a pipe to get the noise level down to within the limit but it's not ready yet. Apparently, Kawasaki UK are replacing the OE exhaust can on the H2 with an Akrapovic unit. I've not seen it but surely it has to be smaller than the original!

If it's the H2R that is the one that is too loud for the UK, I would think the Akra pipe will be larger to make it more quiet. There is already an Akrap pipe for the H2 and it is a lot smaller than the OEM H2 road bike pipe. I would expect Akra to come up with something of similar size for the H2R if people want to quiet it down. I'd hate to make it less loud but if I imagine loud exhausts stand out like a sore thumb in some places.

The problem is the 2R kick out 50% more power than the H2 which means it'll be flowing a lot more gas. Cutting the noise while keeping the same gas flow as an open pipe and hence the same power usually means a large muffler. Sticking a can on the 2R which cuts the noise but also drops the power would be a bit pointless.

"Apparently the H2R is illegal to use anywhere in the UK"...hmmm...interesting comment there;)Guess a lot of H2R owners in the UK are gonna be dreadfully sorry they bought one .

H2 200hp : H2R 300hp
300 - 200 = 100

50% x 200 H2 hp = 100

The H2R makes 100 more hp than the H2. %50 more than the H2 which makes 200hp.

right?

I was also curious as to it have 100 hp less than the full enchilada bike. What, did they stuff a potatoe up the pipe ?

It's a little more than the pipe that's different. I'm hoping there will be some kind of aftermarket parts that will close the gap somewhat. Kawasaki must have expected this before they sat down at the drawing board. I'm sure here has to be some important aspect of the H2R that cannot be duplicated over to the H2 or else the H2R owners would be screaming. Same goes for opening a new buying window with lower priced H2s. They will either be the same price or they will have to deprive the new bikes of some things in order to not alienate the owners who bought the first bikes at full price. If kaw started selling the same bike at $15,000 that I paid 24 grand for, I'd never buy another Kawaski no matter what.

Have you seen the maintenance schedule on the 2R? That would be totally impractical for a road bike.

The 2R has different clutch, head gasket, cams, bigger diameter headers with no CAT and obviously a different engine ECU/engine map, possibly a different ECU even?

That's a good point about the pricing of subsequent SC models. They could just keep the H2/2R as the flagship version with similar pricing and launch less expensive models with the same SC tech for mass production. A bit like Honda with the V4 engined RC30 and the cheaper mass produced VFR750.
