Pix Blaze Panniers
11/30/13 8:35 AM

Hi fellow fourteeners,

Just purchased Blaze Panniers and quick lock tank bag by SW-Motech from Twisted Throttle. Installation is simple and instructions are very clear. Haven't ridden with them yet but seems to be pretty sturdy and solid. Exhaust clearance is about 2 inches from my Akrapovic, I think the OEM pipes are even lower. Good quality and highly recommended.

If they're resting against your plastic (looks like they are) be careful. The tabs on those rear pieces are pretty fragile. I broke mine with a similar set up. My bike is a gen 1, maybe your rear plastics are different, look the same. Good luck, your bike is looking awesome.

I have my eye on that exact same setup. I'm not a fan of letting things rest on the plastics, but I also don't like the idea of hacking things up to fit hard bags.

A clear coat 3M tape should handle all the chafing.

You have to cut two small slots in the black panel under the tailpiece to fit SW-Motech quick-detach mounts. The kit comes with two rectangular rubber grommets for the brackets that protrude through the slots and bolt to the subframe under the seat. Everything else is bolt-on.

Those are nice-looking semi-soft bags, Coxy. Expandable?

As far as the blaze panniers are concerned the weight on the plastics is partially supported by the metal arms that are attached to the passenger peg mounts. So, stress on the plastics may not be a concern.

What about exhaust clearance? I know it won't clear the stock cans and you have to rig up a way to lower the exhaust (which I don't care for). Maybe if I can get confirmation that the hard bags clear Brock's CT duals or Yoshimura R77 slip-ons, I'd reconsider.

It's a catch-22 for me. Risk damage to my plastics, or have exhaust clearance problems. There's no sign of SW-Motech making an official set of brackets for the 2012s.

Does the tank bag contact the paint at all?

These panniers come with 2 x A4 size 3M clear coat wrap so you can cut to size to protect your plastic. There are two aluminium rods that connect to your rear pegs, these hold the saddle bags in place. The tank bag does slightly touch the paint but all the weight is on the quick lock ring. You will need to drill holes in your bag to install the quick lock device, drill bit and hex key provided. My photo shows the side bags at 28 liters (both) but fully extendable to 42 liters. My trip is next week so will report back then.

I also broke my mount tabs when I had the saddlebags mounted. We moved the cross strap to on top of the seat and that seemed to take some weight off the sidepanels but I was going to make some support bars. Maybe I'll just buy these instead.

I just talked to Twisted Throttle and they told me they didn't make a Blaze system for the ZX14!
Are they just being clueless about their own products? Did you have to give them a secret password to buy a set or what?

Twisted Throttle is just an importer. They are made by SW Motech. If you contact SW Motech via email. They can give you a part number that you can give to Twisted Throttle for your purchase.

For the 14R, they told me to call Twisted Throttle and ask for part number HTA.08.740.10900
