I'm through for the forseeable future..
03/02/15 3:21 PM

Had a heart attack about a year ago and did the whole stent and meds thing. I think I'm gonna be perpetually dizzy and I can say that my reflexes are not the same. I have not ridden much at all since last summer.

If I could keep the dang thing just to get that pitter patter everytime I go into the garage I would, but I am only a thousandaire, so that is not a possibility.... I'm just paying insurance premiums for garage art at this point.

I want to ask you guys what you think I should ask for it, but I want to make sure that's appropriate in this part of the forum before I list any details..if it's not appropriate I apologize.

I have not been on here much at all in the last months, but this forum has been invaluable to my knowledge and entertainment....some very cool bat shit crazy folks!

Sorry to hear it. I had my first "experience" at 38 followed by heart surgery. Not sure what prices they command in the states...but I'm sure the white is sought after.
Good luck!
We replacing it with a comfy sluggish set up, or are you out?

Well my brother, there's comfort knowing you've had a long distinguished and happy relationship with motorsports. I have vowed to hang it up when my kids were born. The bookend comes to everyone and with it the excitement of a new chapter in your life. All the best my friend.

Bardahl, sorry to hear that you have to give up the sport and I commend you for being strong enough to put down the keys if you don't feel safe out there riding. You can always get another MC when you feel better. Hope everything works out and I'm glad your ok.

Thank you. It’s funny, I guess I kind of bought this one to ward off feelings of getting old, and I got older anyway!
I’m 54 and have been on bikes since I was 11. My wife was not crazy about this one, but she did not stand in my way when I bought it and I think she understands why I wanted to ride again. It’s pretty much my decision, but I think she is relieved. It’s more than just the meds and reflexes though, almost a low grade anxiety I seem to have developed when I am on it.
My 11 year old is slightly pissed as he will lose the “so what, my dad’s got a 14” card!
Anyway if anyone wants to guesstimate what a good asking price is…???
I looked on Cycle Trader and there are still a few new white 13’s between 10.5 and 15k Pretty wide range price wise. I am trying to decide if it’s 10 -10.5k 11k 12k…what do yall think?

2013 Non ABS 14r in artic white, 1364 miles, extended warranty until 10-28-2016 transferable to the new owner. Never got around to CBlast,so stock mapping. Break in respected. 600 mile service by yours truly. The bike is in pristine condition. Always waxed garaged and covered, never been in the rain. I own it outright and have clear title. Original tires in good shape. I know extras can be better if sold off the bike, but a lot of the stuff I did was stuff most people might do, so I would prefer to let it go all at once...
Extras are…
Muzzy CF Oval Slip Ons
Carbon Heel Guards
Carbon Hugger and Chain guard combo
Zero Gravity Dark Smoke Double Bubble
D3 Grips with white Delrin Ends
Heli Bars bar risers
Knights Design Foot pegs 1 3/8”
Yoshimura fender eliminator
Ram ball mount and x mount for phone
Black bolt kit for windshield, gas cap, and various fairing fender and engine case bolts.
Battery tender plus and pigtail installed
Pitbull zx14r/ hayabusa stand and white spool kit
Dowco Ultralight plus Cover
Aftermarket red alum valve covers and oil cap.

Thanks for your thoughts,
bardahl

I'd say keep it. If it still gives you pleasure to own it, why not? If I were in your shoes, I guess I'd sell it but no need to be in any hurry. Get a good price or keep it and enjoy it a while. Have a look at Blue Book or NADA and see what they suggest. You don't really need to go lower than the going rate.

Bardahl, sorry for your misfortune!!! I had my attack 2 years ago followed by stents and open heart surgery, couldn't get on bike for a year. Got lucky and am back to about 99% now, hopefully with a little time you will adjust to your meds and be doing better as well! It sucks getting old but that's better than the alternative. Wish you the best no matter what!!!

Get a Dr. that will listen to you about your symptoms, and is willing to adjust your meds until they are right. You should not be dizzy a year post procedure.

I encounter a lot of people in my line of work that have had stents placed, and even bypasses and/or valve replacements. Most of them are as good as new after they recover (as long as too much heart muscle damage didn't occure while the Coronaries were occluded).

I wish you the best.

IF you're taking Lisinopril...THIS will make you feel weak and dizzy. You can get off of it...just tell your Doc your feelings and symptoms. You have the last word.I stopped mine a year after taking it...same deal...actual fainting episodes(close enough anyway) at my checkstand.Very ugly.Once I told my Dr.."hey,this stuff isn't ok"(and why),he took me off of it(after being on it about a year out from my heart attack).Been several years now. They give you that stuff to help your heart remain unstressed. But once you start actually healing...you don't need that anymore.EVERYONE whose had a heart attack..that's the one drug they give em for recovery.I know a few here myself...same side effects.Get off it...and give yerself some time to clear from it.I think you'll feel MUCH better.Wait on your decision about your beautiful ZX.

There's NO way a guy could ride and keep it together when one of those episodes starts.I know.Your fear will leave.I also know this.

"I think I'm gonna be perpetually dizzy and I can say that my reflexes are not the same"...yup.I know the feeling. You WON'T be perpetually dizzy...trust me.

I think the guys here have given some pretty astute advise and I totally agree.

Do absolutely all that can be done to see if this can be sorted out health wise, and if it 100% can't, bite the bullet and hang em up.
My only additive would be to be patient, dont rush into anything, and give this the best chance you possibly can.
Because once you shut it all down, thats probably it.
You can sell your beautiful bike anytime.

However Bardahi, I do commend you're self honesty and having the maturity to make this call if it needs to be made.
I only I hope that I might be as switched on when my time comes to make the decision.

Scary. I turn 52 this month.

Anyway, well done mate and all the very best either way...

"I had two large stents placed in my RCA and LAD in 2011"..three here,in 2002.

"I'm on Plavix and aspirin"..I was also on Plavix...they took me off after a year or so.Started me on Atorvistatin. And the aspirin.Also,Carvidilol,25 mgs half in the morning, half at night. I feel the dizziness is the meds, not your heart. But I'm no doctor. They use so many different heart medications with people. Some of em just don't react nicely with certain people.Mine work very good.Truly hoping all the best for ya;)

Sorry to hear about your health and cold feet about riding. If you are afraid then don't ride. I definately can relate to the concern of an accident and injury but it sounds like you have stepped past the point into fear of riding for more reasons than health alone. My thoughts are first you should revisit your symptoms with your doctor and consider your meds and side effects and your dizziness. Even if you never ride again you still have to drive an automobile and just have quality of life. Second maybe you should hold onto the bike a bit longer and if you regain your health and subsequent confidence and build some positive momentum you may wish you had the bike. Just trying to put myself in your shoes and say don't give up on your health and your bodies ability to get well. I pray and hope the best for you. On the negative side though I don't think the bike is really worth more than 9,500.00 to 10,000.00 and thats generous. Take the mods off and sell them parted out first to recoop some of the money for mods.

I kind of had the same thing I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer or my odds were 60% tumors everywhere well make this nasty story short after a few surgeries and $230K yes I'm not making that number up of course complications etc.
I made a promise to myself if can beat this-- I will buy the bike of my dreams even if I'm in debt up to my eye balls, you can not take it with or you can sit there on your ASS and say "could of should of" BULLSHIT.

Man anything is possible with of course with the wright meds and I'm a firm believer in excise and don't forget the mind HOW BAD YOU WANT IT!
Believe ME it's taking a hole year working my ass off at the GYM/THERAPY to get my weight back on and my strength back up, of course I will always have bad days but you have to expect that when you come back from near death man.
Riding my 2013 14R gives me the greatest enjoyment I could every ask for, makes me forgot about all of my problems and enjoy everything that I live for.
Sorry If got too detailed.
Here's some photo's of me....KEEP THE BIKE EVEN IF YOU DON'T RIDE IT MUCH IT'S THERE WHEN YOU NEED IT....

Wow these stories you have all shared scare the shit out of me. They should be an inspiration to the op. They are an inspiration to me and a lesson, so thank you. In the end though if we do things in moderation and take every health precaution and take care of ourselves we all are still at the mercy of genetics, fate and God's plan. Keep the ZX14r op and keep fighting to get well.

You guys are an awesome community...I already knew that riders of the beast were a special breed...some very kind words and I do appreciate it. I managed to pull several muscles in my back a couple of days ago and have been out of pocket, but Im ok...tricep extensions and middle aged men don't always mix well..

My current meds are Lisonopril and aspirin in the morning, a statin at night. Just got off of the Effient and Metropolol. Its gonna take a week or so to see if there is much difference.

Even if the dizziness subsides, I still have some issues. I don't wanna sound like a wuss, and I don't want to really say its premonition - like ( maybe just to ignore the little voice )but something has changed mentally.
All of a sudden this past summer and fall I started to feel real exposed on the bike and so defensive minded when I rode that it became the main factor...enjoyment out the window. I have had no close calls on the bike. I know it's dumb to do so, but my mind says stuff like, "mf-er, the 5 or 6 times you have been closest to death, 4 of them involved bikes". I have been on bikes since 71' and have been off a few times, mostly in the dirt, never bad on the street.

For those that chimed in on price, thanks...im not far off from that. I have not listed the bike, and will sit for awhile and ponder it...I am kind of in limbo over the whole thing.

Thanks for the kind words of support.

"My current meds are Lisonopril"...I suspected that.I'll tell ya...everyone whose used that after a heart attack report the same thing. It's prescribed highly for the first year after an attack. But once your heart actually gets healed again(IDK how much 'damage' you did...they can see it on a scan...can't remember now which one...they put that dye in your system, wait about 20 minutes, then scan you, then the treadmill...and another shot of dye and another scan. They can see where the shadows are at indicating heart damage(whether lots or little, and where it is).If you had little damage, they can take you off Lisinopril when it shows stabilized heart improvement(healing).

If you haven't spoken to your dr about this...you might want to.I asked EVERYTHING about the scan pictures and all.Hell...I wanted to know just what chances I had for the future.

But that Lisinopril...it's a real 'downer' when you're taking it.I just HAD to do something different. He said okay.Course,I was at least a year out from mine.I was feeling just as you are...no fun.

"but something has changed mentally"...you're realizing at this point how quickly your life can be...OVER.Natural...hang in there, once you start feeling better, your mood will change...and so will your feelings of vulnerabilty while riding...it'll become fun again...you'll see. You're doing a really good thing bringing this whole deal to the surface here on the forum. It IS important. You should feel like things will be okay...and they will.

I had blockage that caused the lower heart electrical bundle to malfunction. It had damage to that...I'm running on 7 cylinders instead of 8...but totally survivable. The scans and all stopped after 2 years.I'm okay.Damn good thing I wasn't out riding somewhere when she hit...would have never survived for sure.Sobering stuff.Went through ALL those feelings as well. You'll be okay...keep your ride.It may just be your total healing in this.
