Oh yeah, i think we've discussed this. They've made dirt bikes for a long time but have gotten into road racing sport bikes more recently. That in itself could be the reason we hardly ever see one on the road. For myself, I would want to the reassurance of seeing a good number of bikes sold before I jumped in on the game.

I have 3 bikes for sale. 2 for sure. Harley is a possible. New model coming out and wait for the show? The KTM is too neutered. They need to step that bike up to 'brutal,' because brute is not cutting it for me. Other than that, I'm at a loss. If there was a HP war going on it was too short.

Well Hub...as i said before...I bought that 2014 Road King and the selling point for me really was their advertising about the new 'torque' 'upgrade' with it.I expected it to pull much better than their previous bikes. It didn't as far as I could tell.Went to pass a cage at 70 in (I think it was)3rd.I could tell I needed more power,so I opened her up nicely. It hit the rev limiter a second or so into it(with no noticeable increase in speed). So I shifted into 4th and punched it...there was a cage coming...I HAD to make that pass at that point.Within a second or so,it was tapped out again.I shifted into 5th...thinking 'now she'll bark'.Nope...not enough torque.Limited out again.Shifted into 6th HOPING,I mean REALLY hoping...space was disappearing FAST.Punched her again...barely anything.BARELY got past and back into my lane...wasn't fun at all(haven't been THAT concerned when passing in YEARS)...nothing like the zx.Right there,400 miles from home I made my decision. She was gone the next day.

That bike had the 110 engine in it...very disappointing. And it felt like a barge at any low speeds.IDK WHAT I was thinking when I bought it.Maybe for someone riding at 65-70...fine.But that aint me...well...sometimes.But not EVERY RIDE.Which is pretty much what it would have been.IMO...they haven't upped the tech on these new Harleys at all. Some slick gadgetry...but that's about it.NOTHING compared to a killer zx(straight outta the crate)...no way.

Nuther thing about that Harley. When I WAS able to wind her out...she stopped pulling at 110(until the raod declined a bit...then she hit around 115 or so...which was the very spot where their infamous front end wiggle begins to occur. Not a good feeling when in a curve. And it wasn't the road...It did this on several big sweepers on the way home.Very not okay with that bike. You've have thought they would've worked this out by now...nope...still there and VERY dangerous.Course,I guess they could always say.."Hey asshat, yer supposed to be following the posted limits, whattaya expect".If I had a big ass beautiful Harley...and they are...I'd DEFINITELY want it to be able to reach 150 at least, and be totally safe as well.Is that too much to ask?

This is a motorcycle? What a disgrace. No wonder I get stuck behind 20 Harleys holding up even the cages in the twisties.

I guess if I had the $ and the space, I'd take a Harley...after a Japanese cruiser but it would definitely be the lowest priority bike to own on my list.

We've all been through this before 100 times.
You either love Harley's or you don't.

They will always be the first bike of choice.
On the condition you don't want to accelerate, turn or brake.

Sacrilege that the H word is even mentioned on this forum.

"Six-Speed Cruise DriveĀ® Transmission
The Six-Speed Cruise Drive transmission provides smooth, quiet shifting and reduces engine speed on the highway"....saying it reduces engine speed is putting it mildly .Deathtrap...that's what they're REALLY saying;)

Yanmaster says"They will always be the first bike of choice.
On the condition you don't want to accelerate, turn or brake"...sounds great for a couch potatoeLOL.

HUB!!!!Please say that's NOT your thinking on these. They're an EGO booster and that's it.Guys who want to appear as real men(and women)...riding that big azz hog....a symbol of'this is me...big and bad...an American through and through'...what a crock.ANY Metric cruiser will outperform in every area over the Harley.I'm an American through and through...but I don't need to belittle any Harleys to prove my bike's better built. It just is.And I'm happy with that.

If people want these Harley's...go for it...they are(some of em) cool(looking)bikes...but that's about all. That's what ya get...flash.Shiny eye candy.'Top of the heap' feeling. That's why they sell like they do...cause there's a LOT of people that don't feel okay with themselves.Kinda like a bunch of strutting peacocks;)And they come out in recent years with this 'blacked-out' look...for all the 'outlaws'(hell, they even say it in their advertising)...you know..."I'm dark and mean.I don't fuckin play around'... If ya have an image problem...then this bike is FOR YOU!!!!Everyone ya pass by will cower in fear at the dark mood of rider and bike;)

Freedom is choosing the right tool to take ya where ya wanna be.These folks aren't free...they're slaves to groupthink. With the 'promise' of.."be yerself...independent"...buy this Harley...we'll take you there.

Hell,if anyone was an 'outlaw' bent on doing their own thing...it'd have to be guys riding the sportbikes.Show me ONE sportbiker that rides the speed limit religiously.Or wears non-protective gear in case of a get off at speed. Not very many. They actually CARE about themselves. And their loved ones.MOST Harley riders...no helmets,no decent gloves,a tank top or vest)...a friggin bandana! That'll work really well at stopping the bleeding...if they're still conscious that is.Kinda like riding with an on the road tire repair kit...you know...'just in case I need it'. At least that bandanna will be 'be there' if they can't apply themselves;)

They've been cramming this mantra down people's throats for years...."Make it your own"...sheesh...look at the Harleys stacked up in the get togethers and such. They're all the same...with a doodad here and a doodad there....nothing so independent that I've noticed. In fact...I LOVE showing up on a killer Kawasaki....now THAT's independence.

And just LOOK at that oil box on that new Harley.Real ingenuity there.Musta saved em quite a bit in the fabbing process...not having to produce a metalworking machine to form the rounded edges familiar with the earlier models;)

Gotta say...the ONLY one there that I like...is that bigazz ElectraGlide UltraClassic...now THAT's a work of art right there.Beautiful machine.

Here's one of their newest slogans..."LIVE WITH CONVICTION

RIDE WITHOUT COMPROMISE"...right along with..."OBEY all local laws".Yup...just be one'o the crowd.Don't do anything you'd really LIKE to do on your motorcycle.Fer God's sake, don't EVEN try and go faster than the posted limit(especially on yer Harley, you might wind up in the ditch cause she wouldn't lean without hitting those wonderful hard parts and catapulting you and your dream bike into the emergency room.Oh yes,and that 'outlaw/independent' spirit that told you to ride without a helmet...the doctors will truly love ya for that.Almost as much as they love doing those months of horrible skin grafts to yer loving Ladyfriend. You know...the one who you told.."aw shit bitch, you don't NEED any bike specific pants or jacket...I aint gonna get ya hurt...that shit's for pussies".

"On the condition you don't want to accelerate, turn or brake" is more said in the brochure? You do "hear" one of these accelerate no doubt about that. You can watch your second hand move before the bike does, yes. The brakes are not bad if with duals add the rear and it almost gets it done, ha!

Think of this thread being in 'other bikes' so there is no sacrilege going on. The net shows you the crowd you hang with. Some are single owners and others own a fleet, to a few. I'm just saying we gravitate to other bikes and its a good thing.

"is more said in the brochure?"...well,if ya mean.."ALWAYS OBEY local laws etc etc.Yes,I think you're right Hubster;)

"You can watch your second hand move before the bike does, yes"...just what I need...a sure-fire solution to achieve that head-on.;)Or skoot outta the way of some bonehead trying to close the clearing(side to side) distance when I'm passing by purposely swerving into that passing lane...nice.

This Is New. He's flipping these pans/shovel/evo/twinkies and can afford another bike to flip again.

5th build in 4 years. I call this one "The Game Changer."

I've been watching these piles come alive and they just keep running. The wire harnesses are well built [making my own from them]; the engines [evo] hardly have any parts in it. I'm almost thinking of one and if I had a choice. And then there's the V4 aprilia with 16 more hp for the year.

Back to neutered piles of more shit.

My last comment on the subject that I wrote somewhere else here.

So I own a Harley with my Harley vest, my Harley badges, my Harley underwear and my Harley dentures.
I join a few other Harley's for a ride.
And what do I find?
Harley Law states I can't overtake the group leader, even if a slug will out run him. Something about respect.

Yep, a whole lot of freedom right there...

Wow, who wound Grn up lol....but I agree with everything he's saying, Harley's are 800 lb butt ornaments designed to compensate for a lack of real manhood. If I can't be a real man, at least I can dress like a pirate or a Bandido or whatever strikes my fancy. Roll into an HD emporium and put the whole kit and kaboodle on the old MasterCard, bike, extra chrome plated doodads, leather chaps, HD bandana, the works! Drive in Harvey Milquetoast and ride out a certified badass. Just don't try to accelerate, turn, brake or do any of that other dangerous stuff!

Anyone else notice these clowns pride themselves on being the last of the rugged individuals, real men going their own way, doing there own thing? I guess that's why they all ride the same bike, wear the same HD leather gear and all gather at the same watering hole to swap lies about their bikes and riding prowess. Follow a pack of these clones sometime and they invariably will end up at a bar somewhere. They call this the "Harley Lifestyle"?

Hubster, former MotoGP star Jeremy McWiiams rode the KTM 1290 on track and said you'd best leave the TC switched on as the bike will swap ends on you in a nanosecond without it. There's brutal in there but they tamed the beast with the electronics. If you want to be a hooligan, just switch off the electrons and light up the back tire. These bad boys are wheelie happy without the traction control turned on.

I'm just havin some fun.Harleys are cool for what they are.If I ever get that clarified...I'll let ya know;)They sure make a big show around here...with those lifesaving loud pipes.Doubles as a 'look at me' advertisement.Just what they want!I don't think their 'look at me' deal actually means...please avoid me while you're driving thinking there's no other bikes out there.Loud pipes save lives?Nice switcheroo for an ego starved wannabe.

Oh almost forgot, throw in the words Softail, Classic and Heritage and you can tack on another $4000 to the sticker and they'll pay it.

So call that bike a SlowBob Heritage Softail Classic XLFCH and it's worth maybe $29,000!

Grn, HD last retooled right after World War II near as I can tell, if they sold those things at Walmart you could get one for maybe $1900 and they'd throw in a bandana and assless chaps for free.
