BMW K1600 GTL
04/22/14 5:01 PM

Mah pappy just traded his Roadstar... my old Roadstar that I gave him cause I'm a good boy... on THE baddest ass tourer I've laid eyes on.

A 1649cc straight six... 160HP, 129ft/lbs.

Sexy-as-fuck single side swing. Cup-your-balls seat. Electric EVERYTHING!

The engine at an idle sounds like... nothing. No valve train noise whatsoever.

I get you cats some photos next week.

Nifty point: tire sizes are 190/55 17 and 120/70 17. As a result I think we're going halvsies on a nomar tire changer.

Hagrid, I remember when your purchased your GT1600 a couple of years ago. Would you mind providing a quick longterm on the GT1600. Like some Gen1 owners, I am stuck trying to decide whether to move up to the 14R or go in a different direction; the GT1600 is top on my list. It would be cool having the badass 14R but shortly after the newness wears off I would run into the same issue I have with my 2009, no place to consistently exploit the power living in Boston. While I made my bike as comfortable as possible for wifey (passenger), I need another bike for true two-up touring...Also, looking at Granturismo Multi... Thanks.

???

The only scooters I've ever owned were a 95 KLX650, the 02 RoadStar, and my Ninjee.

Must've confused me with someone else?

No matter. The K1600 is magnificent to behold. It's 767# wet and the seat is high... that's the only detraction I can find. The cylinders are almost horizontal to help keep the center of mass low but there's only so much you can do.

I'm waiting till dad has it broken in before I ride it.

Before your criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you do criticize them, you're a mile away and have their shoes.

Damn Hagrid, my bad I am way off. I definately got you switchup and now I am going to have to search prior threads. Some time back, I thought one of the brothers here had a 14(R) then also purchased a GT1600 and was so impressed with it...Well still looking at one but the money lady says no to any bike over 20k (at that this price point, she wants a new car first). Enjoy dad's ride....

Like it's your idea.

Indeed it is! I've been offered twice already.

My plan is to have my pappy follow me on the Ninjee. That way he knows his six cylinder is still second fiddle.

You have no idea, double R. As big as that engine is it makes no sound whatsoever. No cam chain slap, no input shaft purr... nothing. At a hot idle you need a stethoscope or look at the dash to see if it's running.

Fucking spooky.

I'll bet the miles just disappear on that thing. I've never owned a bike that I cared to go more than 300 miles a day on. I imagine 300 miles on that would be a good start to the day.

That K1600 GTL is a sweet sport-touring machine. At very low speed it handles as well as an Ultra Glide (which is saying something, believe it or not) and it has fantastic torque and horsepower.

I rode one before I got my Concours 14, and to be honest, its a nicer bike than my Concours 14. But for the price difference, my Connie got Ohlins front and rear suspension, MCE Canyon Cage and rear bag guards, GPS, Dispatch 1 electronic fuse box, built-in powerlet sockets for heated gear (controlled by the Dispatch 1's remote, mounted on the handlebar), electronic cruise control, lowered, Baldwin GT leather heated (rider and passenger), Corbin leather heated seat (rider and passenger), an XL CalSci windscreen, and some other stuff.

And the K1600 GTL is still a nicer bike than mine. But mine is mine, and I've set it up just right for long distance work, for me. If I had purchased the K1600 GTL it would still be bone stock.

Changing the factory rubber on mah pappy's scoot. Never had a wheel fall off a scooter as easy as this one.

Expensive but after you break your first bead you'll know where that $$$$ went. Turned a 3 hour job into .75 hours.

Take note of my "nerve tonic" on the far right of the snap.

Hagrid I have a Cycle Hill /No mar changer. I haven't used it yet but plan to this weekend. I'm going to bolt mine to a concrete floor as well. Just wondering what size and type of anchor/fasteners you used or recommend using to assure a solid job. Thanks.

Might want to keep an eye on that water heater! Looks like it has a bad case of diarrhea.

Concrete fasteners one click away! Epoxy sold separately.

Looks like it has a bad case of diarrhea.

Good catch! I'll stuff some Immodium down the inlet.

$215.00 for 4 anchors...I definitely got in the wrong business. Thanks, I'll try to find something comparable at the hardware store.

Well... I'd be lying if I said we'd paid for them.

Lotta concrete work going on around Ye Olde Plant recently.

Plain old Red Heads from Home Depot are more than sufficient.

Sure looks like it beats tire irons and a changing stand that sits on the ground. OH, my back hurts just thinking about it. Maybe some day I'll have one of those but first, I have to start going through tires more often.

Sound logic as I've come to expect from you, D.

Consider this observation: since buying the tire changer my father and I have been under constant assault from nubile females whom spontaneously drop to their knees whenever we get within 5' of them.

If you're into that. Not for everybody.

Looks like your wheel is a bit wanky but hard to tell on my pos cell phone. So I'll go with the wheel...final answer Regis.
