What did you do to your zx today?
07/18/15 9:25 PM

Thought this would be a good topic to borrow, it is on the roadstar raider forums. Whatever you did or did not do, ride, wash, fix, add goodies, just admire it sitting in the garage during the winter. Today I changed the plugs for the first time, I have an 08 with 7,665 miles and to my surprise it was not bad, just a tad fiddly. While I had the plastics off I checked and blew some bugs out of the air filter. What did you do today?

Had a knock occur, rode it like that a for awhile. Last week repacked the front end steering bearings, cleaned the bike. So I assume the knock would stay snapped in that position? Only on occasion I would hear it. Now that I hear nothing, it steers so much better. I'm trying to wonder if that much rake change in mm knock would cause this to steer differently?

I could not see a divot as pronounced as on the '08 steering races. Plus, I would not hear the '08 knock at all. Go figure? So it was time or I'd knock divots in the races. I do no use the rear brake so all that load heads up the neck, plus I was fitting that lock ring hand tight when I first packed them, not book tight or however they suggest.

Book time is 7.5 and 15k. My notes in the OM read 6240 and 12544. The knock was obvious it was time.

Got my shorty levers on, the old ones were faded. Switched them around but thought it would try the short levers.

Today i flushed the coolant out and replaced it then new plugs for the first time thanks to Rook's guide. Not as bad as i thought it was going to be, biggest pain is taking the fairing off.

Took off quick from a light only to almost rear end a car that was trying to beat the light and did not stop before turning right on a red. I think no more fast starts from lights might be prudent.

Put my stock cans back on, I really don't like my bike loud. Thought it would be safer in traffic. Noted that rpm was 1300 or so with Jardine rt5 slip ons and was having some minor popping on decel but with the stock cans on rpm is right at 1100 and pops are gone. The 2008 stock cans are chrome and I like chrome, not as bad as the new zx14r mufflers.

Yesterday I rode her to work, washed her and lubed the chain after a dry off ride. Also ordered a new set of tires, Bridgestone S20 Evos (trying a 55 for the first time).

Today I'm gonna do some major riding, should hit 6k for the season!

I love my Yosh exhaust, the sound, the looks, but damn the loudness. I severely miss the stealth of the quiet stock exhaust. As far as loud is safe, I never thought it really had any safety benefit. But there are places I ride it's advantageous not to have loud pipes because it draws attention and people actually come around now at a couple of my choice spots. When I still had the stock exhaust, I never had any one come around sticking their nose into what I was doing.

I even put the db killer in, that didn't make a difference at that specific place, still too loud.

VicThing, I will notice in heavy traffic in town with a louder exhaust people will look around to see whats going on. I constantly watch where peoples heads are and a lot of times it is not watching the road and surroundings. Feel it makes much more of a difference to wear neon green. Love the quiet pipes don't feel I am constantly screaming 'look at me I am right here'.

Oil change (Motul syn) and failed the Maryland state safety inspection: no rear reflectors (duh) and worn rear tire. Now I need to make up my mind: go with the proven (to me) Mishy PR4, or try the (on sale) Pirelli Angel GTs. Thoughts?

New Pirelli Angel GTs. Picked out the seals and re-packed the wheel bearings just like every tire change. Also did a general cleanup in the areas I worked.

was having some minor popping on decel but with the stock cans on rpm is right at 1100 and pops are gone.

The pops are still there, you just can't hear them due to all the internal baffling in a stock muffler. Aftermarket cans are basically straight pipes with packing around a perforated section in each can. No baffles, less restriction, more sound, higher idle.

Took mine out for a nice sane cruise.I gotta say...she's everything I would want in a sportbike. As always.Kinda forgot just how sweet this 14R really is.Did a little suspension adjusting after yesterday's ride. There is no other replacement for my 14.I think I'll be spending virtually all my riding with my beloved 14.The H2 is a killer machine..totally badazz...but it just isn't the same.I may be selling it...IDK yet.Not because something isn't okay with it.It just doesn't fit me and my personality quite right. Not like my 14.

All the hype about the H2 is REAL...It is the top predator out right now.Fantastic performance...truly a one-of-a-kind bike...and of course,it's a Kawasaki...so you KNOW it's built to last.Been a really fun ride for sure.I just think it needs a new home where the owner can really enjoy all it has to offer.

Grn14, That is interesting about your h2, I love my 14 and do not really need it faster every time I twist harder all I do is look for police and worry about speeding tickets. But it is good to have a big bike that you know you can outgun most anything.

Mounted a set of throw-over jumbo size soft bags (Saddleman bags).

Getting ready for a PNW tour. Wife has a set of these on her cycle, a DL650 "Wee" Strom.

They're enormous bags. The saddleman's, not my wife :)

Bunzx14, that looks like a great spot for a gopro. I tried it on my helmet once and the video about made you puke watching it.
I used my stop and go tire plugging kit for the first time, very easy to use and is holding the air for now. Was driving home from work and heard a loud pop from my back tire, when I got home there was a screw sunk right in the middle of the tread. Called the local tire shop because I have a Dunlop in the basement but now they say they wont mount any tires unless they sell them to me. Before when I talked to them they said no problem and said 75 for both 40 for one. I am over taking bikes to the shop, ordered a tire balancer, yellow tool thing, tire weights. Went to harbor freight and got a tire changing machine.
