Don't get me wrong, I love me some Preist but what kind of self respecting man dresses up like a gay man to go for a ride??? Oh yeah, the same kind of man that thinks Harley's are fast!

I'm not going to comment, excuse me while I go barf!

See if you can get Ceasar to a TV spot is here spot is train H-D riders to wave or sniff other brands rear ends. I did not know you could train these pee poles?

Maybe wee could train these H-D pee poles to sniff out plumbers cleavage.

I have nothing against Harleys at all I wouldn't own one for the simple fact that they aren't fast enough for me. I mix my rides with a decent portion of cruising and mega-hard acceleration pulls/high speed blasts. Thats why I love the 14...it does it all with comfort and massive power I could never cruise 100% of the time....and I couldn't fold myself into a race bike for long rides either lol

Hardley riders cannot be trained! You must allow them to "experience" the experience until its worn out then they will graduate to the pleasant realization that there are better things in life than wearing a headband and a leather vest. Some will never reach this plateau of higher understanding simply because they are incapable of higher understanding.
A vicious cycle, so to speak, but one that must be allowed to happen much like the changing of the seasons.

Having ridden everything and mixed with many different crowds i can offer this about Harley riders...

There are motorcyclists, who bought a bike to ride everywhere and comfortably rack up K's and K's of miles. Their ego isn't attached to the bike. this is a group that rides, at their own pace, and every stoplight isn't a race. their ego isn't attached to the bike. They ride cause its in their blood.
And there is a whole batch of people who bought the Harley because of the marketing. They were sold the "open road rebel/hardore biker/dangerous dude" image by Harley Davidson. Their buddies own the same bike, and they ride together in mutual admiration. The second group cares more about being passed because (as previously stated) the image and the ego are at stake. They bash every bike but their own, never took an MSF course, and they brag about who they passed and talk out their a$$ about performance when they they are clueless. and most have never ridden a sportbike for long enough to appreciate the experience.

Same holds true for sportbike riders. there is a group that rides cause it's in their blood.
And there is a whole batch of them who bought the magazine tested best-in-class liter-bike/600/hyper-sport/whatever. They will never drive the bike near it's potential. Their buddies own the same bike, and they ride together in mutual admiration. They will never see a track day, only know what they read in the magazine, never took a MSF course, and attach their ego to their right hand (when they twist the throttle). They bash every bike but their own, they brag about who they passed and talk out their a$$ about performance when they are clueless. and most have never ridden a Harley long enough to appreciate the experience.

People from either second group, no matter what they ride/drive, will always consider you passing them as a challenge. Maybe just to see if they can keep up, maybe because they are convinced they have something to prove. Maybe because its fun.
Seriously, it not like anyone on this board didn't buy the ZX14 knowing it was one of the fastest bikes on the planet, so maybe there is a little of that second group in all of us... do you like getting passed? I don't. I say Hell NO! Bring it ON!!! and when that other bike passes me, I'm gonna put him in his place! He shouldn't even try cause i have the fastest-coolest bike on the planet! and it doesn't matter which one I'm riding at the time! I Like playing "keep up" with other people, it's not like i gotta "win" to have fun. LETS PLAY!
OF COURSE....
The other reason could be that they need the extra time to draw a bead on your back, so i say ride like you were going to get shot at!

People ride Harleys so they can wear assless chaps and wear those cute fingerless gloves, doo rags, and convince themselves and others that they are cool. I have two Harley and love to take chicks for a long cruise on them. The Ultra is really nice for long road trips. But when I ride, I do not dress up in my tribal Harley wear, and think I am cool. Most Harley people are into cult worship and I think that sucks.
I refuse to ride with the A-typical Harley squidds. And when I am on my 14, I dont even wave at them just to piss them off.
The typical Harley punk spends thousands of dollars on his engine to get 25 more HP, then he adds so much chrome, that the bike is slower than it was in stock form.........WTF is that all about?
Then they buy a huge wardrobe of clothing from the Harley shop at X4 prices, again WTF? Harley Davidson has found a way to brainwash all people in the world that have an IQ of 50 or less.
If Harley people knew 9 more things, they would be idiots!

Like I said before and I'll say again, I really like the look of the Heritage Softail Classic....it does have a classic look. If I could find a new one for about 11-12K I'd buy it but that will never happen. There's no way I'd spend $20K or more for one when I can buy a Honda Goldwing for under $18K and get much better performance and comfort with Honda reliability thrown in free.

Just my .02.

I was at the smoke shop yesterday evening, rode in on my CBR to pick up a cigar. Nice fella on a brand new Crossbones Hardley pulled up next to me and was eyeing my new ride. He said it looked "mean" and asked how much I'd payed for it. When I gave him the drive out price his jaw almost hit the floor, he'd paid approximately 2 and half times more for his Hardley and man what a crude piece of work that thing is compared to my CBR or ZX-14...... or even the VTX. No sir, no Hardley's for me, not in this lifetime.

Arkninja, that Goldwing would make sense as a retirement machine one day. I hear they're good for over 300,000 miles with proper maintenance, I'd prolly drop dead of old age before I wore that thing out.

Man I am sorry but I just couldn't go with a Gold Wing. Before I bought my Ultra Classic, I had some friends tell me to try the Wing, and that it was a better bike. Well they were right, technology wise it is way superior, but it looks like a giant hunk of plastic to me. I just hate the looks of a Gold Wing.
At least the Ultra looks and sounds like a real bike, and it is comfortable enough to lay down 500 miles a day. So I had to make my decision based on the following:

1. Do I want to ride something I like, that is a superior product?
2. Do I want to ride something I love that is an acceptable product?

I chose number 2. I honestly think there is no comparison in the looks department, it's the Harley hands down. The Gold Wing has so many creature comforts that you may as well just drive the fricken car!
And another thing, if I ever want to wear assless chaps, fingergloves, and skull doo rags, I will look natural on the Harley..........LOL Hell I could even go to Sturgis someday.........not!

I'm sorry too, but something about goldwings offends me. Maybe cause I once overheard a bunch of cops proclaiming their desire to own one. I've always thought of it as an old guys bike. They cruise around with little flags on their huge bags. Not pretty.
You can't beat a BMW RT for touring. I had one. Miles were effortless.

YOu bunch of plumbing tools, plunging at the GL... Why you old goats would not know the speed king without kitchen sink was watching that bike evolve from a flat 4 to 2 more cylinders. And when that happened, she went smoother and stout at the same time.

I just appreciate the engineering evolving each year. Other than that... It's a perfect bike for, Rotty. You know, slowwwwwwwwww.

Yea Hub, it's all about the engineering. This thread...Why do they even try?.....is just that. If you've ever ridden an Italian bike you know there's something about the engineering that you can't draw on paper with a pencil. English bikes have a feel, German engineering is distinctive, and of course the Americans....Harley has its own uncomparable, feel. That feel goes beyond intelligent thought. It's what gives Harley owners an attitude. I'm sure that deep down inside they know they can't outrun a Jap bike. But they don't want to take it lying dow.
I once stood up to 3 Hells Angels outside a bar. I knew I couldn't win but I also couldn't just take their shit. (But that's another story.)
Even Jap bikes feel different. Kawasakis have a certain raw edge to them. Honda is disgustingly smooth. To many its ultimate engineering. To me it translates to a lack of soul. There are women who are incredibly and perfectly beautiful. Too perfect to stir my interest. And Hondas, I just don't find Hondas exciting.
Harley riders will always try cause they think they have the best ride.

Well the Harley is the perfect machine to allow you to go to Sturgis, wear assless chaps and leather on 105 degree days, and stink like a beer drinking goat! That's all it is...........LOL
I know a bunch of Harley guys here in Toledo. They have all only owned a Harley for less than three years. These fockers has spent thousand and thousands of dollars on Harley trinkets. And they and their wives never wear anything that doesn't say harley on it.
They have Harley, ceiling fans, toilet seats, bedspreads, lamps, telephones, shot glasses, clocks, holey chit it's a sickness. Then when they ride it is from one bar to another until the wee hours of the morning.
Two of them have died already this spring from riding while drunk. Every year two or three of these guys eat it! They all slow down on the drinking for a couple of months, then it starts all over again.
They have the intelligence of a tadpole!

I think I have a sickness...50% of the reason I ride is for the scenery and smells......the other 50% is for the acceleration a fast bike can give me. I've never cared about brands, looks (of the bike or my gear), or anything else. All I require is a bike comfy enough to ride all day, and acceleration hard enough to thrill me. The 14 kinda thrilled me stock, but I'm pretty confident the turbo is going to keep me 100% satisfied

I'm with you Black. I like the open ride, but I LOVE the adrenaline...

Speaking of which I rode a Goldwing once - it felt like I was driving a convertible VW - definitely not my thing.

Man am I dissapointed, so many hater's on here. I wouldn't own a Harley or wear all that cultish crap either but have no need to bad mouth 'em. Every style rider or bike can be picked apart or made fun of for their unique quirkiness. Now even the pinnacle of all Touring machines "the Goldwing" is getting slammed? I guess we do deserve all the hatred directed towards us for our preference to hyper speeds, one piece power ranger suits, and the squid nametag assignment.
