Yea Hub, it's all about the engineering. This thread...Why do they even try?.....is just that. If you've ever ridden an Italian bike you know there's something about the engineering that you can't draw on paper with a pencil. English bikes have a feel, German engineering is distinctive, and of course the Americans....Harley has its own uncomparable, feel. That feel goes beyond intelligent thought. It's what gives Harley owners an attitude. I'm sure that deep down inside they know they can't outrun a Jap bike. But they don't want to take it lying dow.
I once stood up to 3 Hells Angels outside a bar. I knew I couldn't win but I also couldn't just take their shit. (But that's another story.)
Even Jap bikes feel different. Kawasakis have a certain raw edge to them. Honda is disgustingly smooth. To many its ultimate engineering. To me it translates to a lack of soul. There are women who are incredibly and perfectly beautiful. Too perfect to stir my interest. And Hondas, I just don't find Hondas exciting.
Harley riders will always try cause they think they have the best ride.
