Got out on another little ride a few days ago between our seemingly never ending rainy season storms. This time it was Kellen on his 89 Honda Hawk complete with RS125 tail section, F2 front end and an engine that had been run out of oil at least once. But he makes up for it by being a very good rider. The plan was just down to Davenport on the coast and see if George, my regular riding partner was done working on a car. After waiting awhile we decided to take a romp up one of my favorite roads, Pine Flat, and back down. Going up was fine. Road was clean for the most part. Got to the top and turned around. Now, I KNEW that it had rained a lot. I KNEW that dirt would be washed down off the hillsides in the Right turns. Regardless, in the 3rd Right hander I threw it in, towards the inside and....WHOOOOOOOOO boy! Front slid a foot sideways. Before I could get my panties all up in a bunch, the front caught and I went on my way. I did nothing, which is probably the best thing I could have done. The bike, basically by being really well balanced, saved my ass. Another reason why I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the ZX!
Lesson; Even after 40 years riding, I can learn things and I can STILL make mistakes.
