Gilles Tooling safety nut looks like it should fit our rear axle with M24x1.5 threads? They don't list it as being compatible, but I don't see why it wouldn't fit.
Does anyone run anything similar or better?

Very nice looking. I have GT chain adjusters (for looks) but also have a rear axle slider that covers the nut. Can thi sone be torqued to 90 ft lbs? Not that it is necessary to torque that high, my CZ wheels are not supposed to get torqued nearly that high and I have had no problems.
Here's what is made by Pro-Bolts. Not as nice as the GT and looks heavier.

Reciprocating weight is the most important weight.. I'll have to see if I can get a custom nut made...
Ti64 seems like a nice guy with a cool website.
Maybe in a few months when I have some extra coin again.

LOL Expensive bolts are little trophies of love! Shame this one will be covered up. Almost worth cutting a window in your sprocket cover! Well wait---it is worth cutting a window in your sprocket civer! Anoth few ounces of weight shed.

The Gen1 countershaft nut frequency is monitored by the speed sensor for speedometer. A custom nut would have to very similar. Gen2 might have same setup. Also, pretty high torque. You don't want to skimp much on the thread depth, probably. There is a lock washer that should keep it from moving and the engine turns counterclockwise viewed from the countershaft nut side---should tend to tighten if anything. Have a look at my sprockets and chain removal tutorial for pics of Gen1 countershaft nut. Don't know if Gen2 is same or not.

Yeah that's just a nut. You might try it. Remember, this nut is known to be very stubborn sometimes when it comes to taking it off. I guess less threads would make it less of a problem but lower flats might make it worse if you had to resort to an impact.

Made a new rear axle nut and washer from aircraft quality stainless, just for looks really.
Interested in Rook's comments about torque.
Has someone at Kawasaki calculated that this ties the legs of the arm together and makes it more ridged ?
Have noticed the pit stops at the TT they are very careful torquing the nut after a wheel change.

I'm sure there is a reason for the torqque spec of the rear axle nut but I've followed the axle torqque for Carrazzeria rims which is half of OEM. I can't say I feel a bit of difference. I never use a cotter pin or any kind of keeper because of axle sliders and the nut never comes loose either.
Nice axle nut.

Another nice nut!
how deep should the countershaft nut be, and what are the thread dimensions?

Ron Ayers came through again. Looks like the nut is an M20x1.5. The 34mm part of the nut seems to be about 4mm deep, the 27mm part seems to be about 10mm deep, and the countershaft with lock washer is about 15mm deep.
Ktm titanium nut thinking about just buying one of these. Any other ideas?

probably work fine but I'd want to use some kind of locking mechanism. The OEM bolt has a thin metal disc under it. you bend an edge of the disk up against one of the flats. Couldn't do that wit this one because of the flange....so grind the flange flush with each flat. I know it will hurt to do that to a $30 nut but think of it as another weight loss.

I was thinking of maybe grinding off two opposite sides, but I'm not sure I want to use this nut because the factory nut is quite a bit bigger with the 34mm outside, I would think that would help the sprocket to be more true under high stress.
I'll see what I can come up with on the custom side. If that's too much I might try the KTM nut. No rush since I won't be switching chain and sprockets anytime soon, but when I do I want to get as much out of it as possible.

Quite a common size nut Suzuki swing arm etc.
Try a search 24mm x 1.5 titanium flanged nut.
The tab washer isn't really needed. If you are unhappy with Loctite you could use a Schnorr washer.
