Wolfman - Indeed, I'm excited about getting blasted. Why buy a 2nd ECU? There's so many great reasons, here's my most important top 12...

1) some say why, some say why not?
2) I thought it was illegal to modify emission's equipment
3) I like ECUs. The moment I laid eyes on my 14R's ECU I just knew I'd have to have another
4) step 1) Collect ECUs step 2) ? step 3) Profit
5) Cause I had nothing better to do with that money
6) Fate. I knew you would ask me this question and I wanted to answer it exactly as it has transpired right here and now. And I don't mean anyone, I mean you specifically Wolfman.
7) When they finally arrive they will understand.
8) Because now when anyone challenges my riding creds I can be like "Oh yeah..how many spare ECUs do you have? That's what I thought!"
9) Number 2 is bullshit. Well number 2 is shit. But my 2nd reason is bullshit.
10) My when I bought my 2nd ECU story we'll make a great tale for my great grandchildren the 928th time I tell it
11) I'm into ECUs. Some people it's comics, ball cards, or stamps. I'm an ECU collector, just getting started
12) Because if I didn't, Darth Vader threatened to melt my brain.

So you can see, these reasons are the most important ones. I have more reasons too. I might perform some testing, and it'll be nice to have a backup ecu in case one fails unexpectedly. But those are just a couple random reasons way way way down the list probably somewhere around 3000. Like somewhere around 5 billion years the sun will exhaust it's fuel. I'll probably buy a 2nd set of wheels too. Someone told me if I didn't buy another set of wheels they'd kill this kitten.

BTW just Vic is fine. My fav uncle was named Vic, RIP.

Replied. You got?

I think using a used ECU for flashing is wise (IDK if I will but but if I have the $$, you bet). It's the only way to do instant comparos. Also, if you want to convert to 100% stock, a non flashed ECU is the only way to get that back. IDK if anyone could tell the dif between an ECU that is flashed back to stock and a Kawi programmed ECU. My understanding is that an ECU flashed back to stock is encoded in a different language than a Kawasaki programmed ECU. If you ever need Kawi ECU work done (not that anyone ever does--but what if?) it can't be done to a flashed ECU ..unless they reprogram it in Kawi laguage, I guess. Isn't flashing what has caused a few Gen2 ECUs to self lock or "brick" as they call it? If so, I'd want a cheap, used ECU for flashing rather than my expensive to replace stock ECU.

I was thinking the same thing
However there's places on eBay that have 12+ listed with 06-11 ECU's
Glad u found one that's correct and working in no flashed state! I'll keep looking

That money...not my money

Gen 1 parts are obviously more available and less expensive than Gen 2 stuff. BUt Gen 2 stuff is coming down a bit, but it's harder with all the different ECUs in Gen 2 as well (at least ABS/non-ABS).

Most of the Gen 2 ECUs are over priced IMO, 50%+ full retail is a con job.

Eau De Vic

The prose flows, like pedals from a rose
Noone knows, how Vic grows
But alas, my ass, he does have class
And 2 ecu's to use and abuse
Direct, erect the derelict, catch his drift
Eat he will not a sausage, nor is he deft, hanging tall from the left

But mannerly heft, he does profess
A prowess, A daft, acumen he does possess
And a relentless quest
To zx wreck, the ninja set

Mostly just for easier tire swaps. Can have the the one set mounted and ready to go for less down time and hassle, not that a single set is unworkable...but whatever I don't really care. I'll probably outfit both sets with brake rotors and abs ring, that stuff's not too much 2nd hand. Also I'm really considering doing some track days, and it would be nice to have a spares ready to roll. Not sure on finishes but the thought does cross my mind. I'd like old school bright Kaw green, maybe a blue or maybe yellow for powder coating. I might just go with some rim decals or nothing at all. Yes I do plan to keep the original rims original, but I will use both sets of rims.

I'm looking at ordering my pro-bolt stuff atm. Just curious when you bought your pro-bolt stuff did you have any coupon codes? What are those pro-bolt "points" for? Looking at a mix of aluminum and titanium stuff.

I got to get my ECU boxed up and set off to C too. And I need to do my taxes...and order tires and some gear! damn...lots to do!

I ask we get 12 lines of nonsense...Rook asks he gets a paragraph of facts. I was hoping to see that nonsensical list. Disappointed!!!

Is the second set black or se combi?

I'm special!

Just curious when you bought your pro-bolt stuff did you have any coupon codes? What are those pro-bolt "points" for?

No coupons. I believe the points are something you accrue from purchases. After you have a bazillion points, you can redeem them toward a purchase..same deal as Revzilla bucks.

I have my OEM rims and considered fitting them with touring tires to save the racier tires from unnecessary wear. Good idea but that also means a second sprocket and second rotor which will cause extra wear on the drive chain, sprockets and pads. When stuff wears together and the wear pattern is changed, it causes more wear and then I suppose it all happens again when you switch back. Never tried it because I never got the $$ up for a second set of tires. Let us know how it works for you. It might not make too much difference if you just do a quick swap for a day and go back to the everyday rims pretty quick.

LOL Wolf..

Thanks Rook Pro-bolts site isn't very clear at all what the points have any value of. I assumed towards future purchases, but there's nothing on there I can find.

Not flashed yet bud, but I have installed and started the bike with the ECU I bought to ensure it's working. Probably be sending it to you soon, in the next week or two.

As far as spare rims just stockers, lik I have. Stock rims are pretty good, not super light but my guess is comparable to ZX-10 rims which were popular mod for Gen 1s. Depending on the finish condition (they should be in great shape so tis probably wont happen at least for now). might get them powder coated or anodized but not sure yet. Might just do some rim decals.

Excited to add a little flare to it though gonna bu gold and blue stuff from Probolt.

I cant wait to flash that girl with two pairs of shoes!

Yeah Vic, I like the idea of two sets of rims. Makes track days a lot easier and less compromise over tire choice. Now if I could just find a set of BST's that weren't a gazillion dollars! I like the look of the stockers though. They are pretty dang nice for stock rims. I'm thinkin a set of polished stockers would look sic.

ordered my tires today, going with Dunlop Q3s. I'm interested to see how I like them, and right now they got a $50 rebate. Motomummy has the stock sizes for <$250 shipped, plus the rebate. I really thought the M5s were good, and most reviewers rate Q3s better so this should be interesting.
