Scorpion SGS Gloves - review
12/24/14 6:23 PM

Here's some pics of these gloves that hopefully will give you a better idea of what to expect than a lot of reviews. I've used them for somewhere around 250 miles but only in colder weather (mid 40s - low 50s). So far I like them very much.

Sizing
My palm measurement is just shy of 9", and I consider myself to have average size fingers. For comparison, the Castle (HJC) Mesh gloves ($40, pictured black) are XL, and the SGS are LG. In the palm area both gloves fit about the same. The Castle gloves fit palm and fingers great. The SGS are a little longer in the finger and there's a little extra space at the ends.

Comfort
The Scorpions are very comfortable, no noticeable difference in comfort from the mesh gloves. They are fully lined as pictured. They definitely don't flow as much air as the mesh, but I don't think this will be an issue even on hot days but that remains to be seen. So far I've had no issues operating the motorcycle, and don't expect any.

Quality
Build quality seems average. The stampings are clean but some air holes aren't cleanly punched. There's also visible glue on some of the seams. They feature kangaroo palms with cowhide leather on the back and reinforcement. Includes Knox SPS system. No noticeable stitching issues at this point.

Protection
These are a notable upgrade above the mesh gloves. The velcro fastener seems like it could be beefier, but is probably adequate for a street oriented glove.

Overall
These are nice gloves, especially for $80. Considering I paid close to $40 for the Castles, I now have to wonder what I was thinking? They're nice looking, and kangaroo is rarely found in gloves at this price point. Knox SPS is proven to work well, again rare at this price point. SG3 is the same glove but adds a gauntlet. Might be worth the extra $55 ($135). Hehe the spring clip used in the packaging is even reusable as a chip clip or something along those lines.

Gloves

Lining

Side of the hand protection is vastly superior to the Castle Mesh gloves which are only mesh material

Castle (HJC) Mesh Gloves ($40). IMO these are only capable of providing minimal protection. I can't see them providing adequate protection in anything but parking lot speed crash. Probably not significantly better than leather driving gloves.

Vic, nice write up, and nice gloves, I have an older pair of Scorpion gloves and have always liked them.

PLEASE don't take this a criticism because it is not met that way! One of the most common injuries for a biker to suffer is to the ulnar bone in the wrist, it's the bone with the bump at the base of your wrist. The only way to protect the ulnar from injuries is by using a glove with a padded gauntlet that has some friction and stiffening material. I myself do wear short gloves on occasion but mostly wear gauntlet gloves for the extra protection, my old bones are getting brittle! I only mention this because I am a big believer in safety and don't want to see any rider injured. I mention this because a lot of riders a not aware of what a common problem ulnar injuries are.

Rkt I agree. I ordered these but actually wanted the SG3s. When I ordered these I had a 2 day window for delivery. My goal is Held Titans for next season, which are full on race gloves, probably the best on the market.

Before you commit to full race gloves you should try them on first. Race gloves provide the best protection but not necessarily the best comfort. Be sure you buy from a dealer that has a good return or exchange policy in case you don't like them. Lood at the Speed and Strength vented gloves, they kinda split the difference and have proven to be comfortable and reasonable in price.

The SG3's are great gloves but a little hot in the summer. You might look for some vented gloves to keep from getting "hot hands" in the summer. I hate having sweaty hands in the summer, always have a hard time getting my gloves off and on but won't ride without them. Since I wear XXL gloves that's a lot of sticky leather to deal with!!! LOL
