The good thing about ABS is that you can safely squeeze the brakes real hard in an emergency and still steer.
Of course if you have no time to react then you're gone, but we tend to position ourselves on the road so that there will be time to react when something unexpected happens.
One of the reasons I got the 14 was the ABS, in fact I wouldn't buy *any* bike without ABS now that the technology has matured. All it takes is touching the brakes on a diesel spill or some jackass suddenly maneuvering in front of you and you're toast.
It was distressing to look at your pictures, very happy you were not hurt!
Glad you were wearing gear, otherwise..
Hole worn in left arm of jacket: best case road rash, worst case something not working any more
buckle broken on riding shoe: best case something sprayed, worst case a limp
small scuff on helmet: best case a just-in-case MRI, worst case brain damage (brrrrr)
