Skewed what I meant by that is I waited additional time before the shift than you did. This was in reference to you talking about the time to run through the gears. Also to compare it more accurately, we'd have to know starting RPM.

Rook, it just takes practice is all. Start by doing it at lower RPM's until you're very comfortable with it, then kick it up a notch. Like Maverick said,if you miss time it,it simply won't slip in.

Nastynotch,
Why not mount your GoPro so that it views your gauges like I did and do a 65 - 180 mph pull or a 60 - 180 pull like on my 2nd video and shift between 10,400 and 10,900. I think that would be cool. It would be a long distance race (TX and FL) by way of technology. And yes, I know that there are variables like road surface, temperature, humidity, etc. that could skew the result (no pun intended), but those factors would only come in play in a very close race.

Cheers,

Oh I know you'd pull me. I outweigh you by over 100lbs. (I'm not fat though) haha!

"How do you match speeds for a clutchless downshift if you cut back on the throttle?"...you're unloading the motor. But you're not closing the throttle. It's more a 'think' thing.Your wrist reacts to your thought. That's pretty much it(for me anyway). As was said...practice.I was able to downshift my 14 to 2nd without much drama...but the clutch as you know should be used when downshifting at LOW rpms.Same as upshifting...low rpms(on the 14)can be jerky.Hell,I guess any sportbike does this.

As for getting a QS as was mentioned...you really don't NEED one for these bikes. Not IMO.

Take it from me, the dude is all arms chest and back.

Why does anybody buy a quickshifter of any kind then?

I'm glad I have one because I don't know how to manual clutchless shift. There must be a lot of us who don't because a lot of people seem to be buying these gadgets.

Igf I can learn to clutchless shift manually, I guess I might not buy another one unless it was really high end. If it's extremely reliable and it will guarantee a smooth shift that is as fast as possible up or down under any circumstances, it's a nice racing mod. For the street, I think it's a bit overkill but still fun and some cool bling. The HM PLUS is probably not high end enough for me if I can do the same thing (or almost the same thing) manually. The times I have stuck in false neutral were very unnerving. If that won't happen with a missed manual clutchless shift, I'd say learning the manual approach is better and safer. That HM GP is still on my mind though.

Because not everyone can shift lightning quick. I only added an air shifter to my bike for that extra smidge of consistency. I have seen guys that lose as much as 2 tenths when they try to foot shift. Quite comical really. Hand to foot coordination?

....also, for street riding, I can shift easily at low rpm with a quickshifter.

Yeah...it's really down to preference for the rider. They work well...no doubt about that.I was actually able to downshift clutchless with the Shift Star easier than the factory setup. But clutching is a safe way to protect the trans and all. There are 'sweet spots' where manually footshifting works well....finding those takes a bit of time and practice...and it isn't 100% accomplished every time.If you could be on a course and set your riding parameters the same all the time, then you might be able to work a pattern down. But on the street, there's just too many variables.

I found my magic numbers. Over the last week, I have made 50 power-runs with ZERO mis-shifts! Here's my setup:
Sensitivity: 100%
kill time: 100 ms

I ride with steel-toe work boots and the tip of the shift leaver is just before the steel toes section and I can feel the lever quite easily through the leather boots. Problem solved! I guess the moral of the story is that you will have to find your magic numbers according to your abilities/riding style, etc.
