Defects?
07/13/16 1:50 AM

It looks like my horn has made contact with my radiator. I only have a couple hundred easy miles on the bike at this point. I wonder if a dealership will replace the radiator, or just straighten the fins?
There is a larger bead of welding flux around the gas cap mount. It makes the gas cap fit slightly uneven. I wonder if any dealership would be willing to fix this?
I don't want to sand off the bead, because it would expose the metal and probably cause rust. The only real option seems to be filing down the gas cap...
Any other ideas?

Talk to your dealer about the issues first. I wouldn't go correcting something that's under warranty until they refuse to resolve your issues.

As for the fins, they might just straighten them. that's probably a reasonable way to solve that problem. And look at it this way, there will be more of them as bugs and stones get caught in there.

Has anyone else had the horn hit their radiator? Looks like the best quick fix is to remove the horn..

My horn on my Gen1 never touched the rad. Still a good way to remove a half pound. Tip: the contacts DO pull out of the horn.. They are very tight and require a very small thin prying device to pull out smoothly. don't cut the wires. I have a tutorial on this for the Gen1.

I read your horn tutorial a while ago. Nice to be able to use the tips that you wrote up so well.
It seems odd that the horn on a 2016 would be positioned in such a way as to allow it to make contact with the radiator, but I don't see anything else even close, and I could move the horn quite a bit with my hand.
I'm planning a 200 mile trip on friday, so I'm trying to make sure everything is ready to go without having to wait for a factory/dealership response.
Thanks for all your great write ups! Now you need a 2016...

It only has 170 miles on it... Its only been over a hundred just a few times. I'd hate to see what that horn would do to the radiator at 200 mph...

I guess this would be a good place to ask how much the front end can be dropped before causing problems?

Is there any chance it was installed backwards? The Gen1 is installed so it reaches away from the rad.

I have a R&G rad guard fitted and still have around 5mm clearance between the guard and the OEM horn.

I have the Cox read guard, and an air horn, *and* the OEM horn.

Everything clears all the way up to bottoming out the forks, but the forks are at the installed height (I have not dropped them).

The clearance? Maybe 2 mm remaining, maybe...
