This one I like;)"Be Respectful — sharing the road goes both ways.
Don’t rely on loud pipes to keep you safe, loud pipes often startle people and poison the attitude of car drivers toward motorcyclists.
Other vehicles are not required to make space for motorcycles to lane split".

No allowance for lane splitting here.BUT...it's kinda cool how so many drivers out here will actually pull somewhat to the right when I'm passing, even applying their brakes to let me have more space to make the pass. They don't have to do that.

I've edited just the effervescent bubbles exploding under throttle applications. I didn't want to spook the door slammers so I backed off and aborted a few entry lines. I never watch the speedo, but watching the video and that one sweeper; had plenty of exit space for more entry speed, being this bike is effortless to ride. The truck on the other hand> was deliberately gunning for me. Just to confirm, I froze the vid to see how close his tires where to the yellow line? I already knew his game plan and aborted that one as well. That's part of the 'practice percentages' you time others in at vs. aborting the faster line; but you still abort with another smooth line.

Dummy didn't click down to first at the light and started out in a taller gear. But splitting up to the light I knew I was in first. About the only throttle blips (time to goof the ROOK) on this ride was gearing down for the slow corner at the light. I was more practicing with the gopro software, finding files, chasing down text, that kind of learning curve turned, 'oh, there it is!'

And while you're stuck in the snow, no, there is no wasted time you need returned watching these. That mouse click was all your call.

I watched them all the way and heartily enjoyed the throttle blips nearly as much as the warm sun and palm trees.

i see you have the Harbor Freight vacuum gauge. I've got that one. I will have to hook up the 4 gauge sync tool and run it at speed some day for kicks.

You mean to tell me you shut the bike off at the lights to avoid overheating?? this time of year?

Not heat, but hours off the engine. It begins to add up.

Thanks, guys. I like stealth so yes you nailed it, streets. I glued aftermarket turn signals under the mirrors, Grn. Ortega is a negative. Too far south for my bones. It's tuned by mother tea. I'm starting to wonder about the 'more vids pls' thing. I have 10 or 12 subscribers so they are waiting for something too, but I don't knowatt? I guess the only way to learn that video program is dive into it.

crud, it more dribbled around here. If you think about it, lots of situations like; a bike won't trigger the light so you sit waiting for a car to show up; a 4-way when everyone has a left turn signal first and that rotation time; I'll use a commuter train like you said about track time. Long stops at some stop sign and you foot creep up to the sign; adds to the clock time. And when I thought about why that bike didn't start right up, it had the 2nd gear map reading off of it. Because when the bike is killed at the switch, it starts right up.

In the one direction I'm running alone and am trying to catch up to the group that knows this road. First time on this road for me. When crossing over that wash in the road, you can hear the intervention kick in when I spin up the tire. On the way back I more kept my distance if something up front happened. So the catching up part was fun watching this bike reel the others in. Sometimes if you watch the guard rail, you'll see how close I am to that apex... when I'm as close as it's going to get: I pull the trigger. Same goes watching the white line run under the bike or sitting next to it.

To me, the art of the line is to be as smooth as you can; no matter the line taken. Because you are in a constant correction, you abort the car and take a deeper line away from it. You saw the car coming up ahead so you take action so both 'do not meet at that apex' like the truck wanted to. Plenty of lines up ahead so the art is using another line without upsetting the bike.

Tight lines and late lines: Tight because I don't know the roads; late, I can see way up ahead and setup for it.

I think there is an 'unspoken' 'law' about motorcycles sitting at lights that won't trigger.Meaning...if the light doesn't cycle when it should, you can cross as long as there's no traffic approaching.I've done that here...I heard this somewhere...may just be a myth???In these circumstances,If I'm the first at the light, and it doesn't cycle when it should,I normally pull up and allow the driver behind to cross the sensor. That works.

Cool Vid Hub...yep.You shoot some nice vids.BTW...double yellow means...NO PASSING!!!LOL!!!! 1080P makes er look VERY cool.Got a little wheel spin did ya?You animal!

Good idea...IF you have a cage behind you.

I believe you are correct about the MC at the light that doesn't know you're there law. Read that a few years back. Different exact laws for different localities but I think most cops would be reasonable about this.

Two states I'd love to visit and ride: WA and CO on the to-do list.

I was trying to find information regarding running red lights on motorcycles in Alberta, but wasn't having much luck when I stumbled upon this article, I'm not guaranteeing its accuracy nor am I going to put any more effort into doing so but according to the below article, it looks like several states already have legislation that allows motorcycles to run red lights under certain conditions:

https://www.thestreet.com/story/13227983/1/states-where-motorcycles-can-run-red-lights-legally.html

Back to the original thread, if they allowed lane splitting where you ride, would you do it?

I've had a number of times during very heavy traffic where the thought has crossed my mind and since the shoulders (if that's permitted for lane splitting I don't know) and lanes are ridiculously wide here in Alberta it would be easy to lane split.

That being said, I've seen a number of videos where people are doing it at speed (60mph) which is illegal and incredibly stupid and I've seen people deliberately cut off lane splitting motorcycles when I was visiting LA. It is my understanding (not sure if this is true) that in the event of an accident while lane splitting the motorcyclist is immediately at fault, which would make me hesitant to do it at all or anything beyond stopped traffic.

I have enjoyed the ability to split lanes here in Cali for as long as I have ridden Motorcycles...riding the shoulder WILL get you a ticket, most of the time..but between the #1 and #2 lanes , I have never been cited and even had motorcycle cops catch me and I slipped into a lane to let them pass.. No way I could keep up with those guys !!
The video link below ( I cant figure how to insert a vimeo video) is a typical SF bay area rider..
Bay Area Breezing

The actual lane splitting starts about 1:50 and gets serious around 2:40 then varies . The entire video takes along a 10 or so mile stretch as best I can remember.
