pair valve blocked!
04/19/14 6:34 PM

my buddy said that he saw a blue flame come out of my exhaust. I thought it might be time to go ahead and block the pair valve. Apparently the Yoshi full exhaust was popping a little. Mission accomplished!

Some junk & stuff on my bike and a hole in my head for riding it!

does that rob a little power or help her run better without any loss?

Blockin the pair valve will reduce the decel popping heard when you upgrade your exhaust by about 30%. Blocking the pair most definitely makes her run better and if anything helps power not hurts it. It certainly makes it easier to achieve a quality tune because you don't have an intake air tract scavenging loss messing with ya. Just my 2c.

That decel pop is there with the stock exhaust system too, but it's so quiet you don't hear it much.

I thought I had blocked off my pair valve by plugging up the hose leading the the underside of the airbox. However, over the past few days I've been auto tuning my bike with the Woolich Log Box Pro, and all was good...at least I thought so until yesterday. I've had over 10 tuning sessions and noticed that after reviewing the data logs it suggests more fuel to be added after 10 sessions, and I knew something wasn't right. I undressed the 14R and had a look in there and low and behold one of the rubber hoses leading to the left pair valve was split and has been allowing air to enter the exhaust side. This explains the constant adding of fuel to my fuel maps. I ended up buying some rubber vacuum caps and RTV silicone and capped the pair valves off, hopefully for good. After buttoning everything back up I took it for a hour ride, came back home to look at my auto tune data logs and now it's pulling a large amount of fuel from areas where I over applied fuel because of the skewed data from the pair valve not being completely blocked off. Oh well, the auto tuning process continues! I should've known something wasn't right after my first attempt to block off the pair valve, because the off-throttle popping was still present and more pronounced at times. Now since I've capped off both ends of the pair valve tubes, the popping has decreased dramatically with just a gurgle from time to time.
