OldMan, I do have a mixed set. I'v never really worried about mixing tires on my bikes. I 've even run recaps on the rear with no problems at all. They were $95 for a 190 rear. Sadly they stopped making them...
Lately my budget has been so tight that I've been running used take offs. The way this thing goes through rear tires it's the only way I can keep a tire on it!!! When I can buy new, I'll probably go with a set of Michelins or Pirellis.

Received tires today. Rear was made in Germany, front China. Considering the speeds these will likely see I'm not particularly happy about this.

I installed Pirelli Angel GT...and they are made in Germany. I kept thinking Pirelli was Italian. I guess it is still better than Made in China.

Oh, IMO Germany good China bad. I'm not sure why but I thought Perellis were all made in Germany even though I do believe it (was) an Italian brand. China owns Perelli now. Probably more and more will be made there.

I don't know. I'd prefer USA or Germany (Japan would be ok too) made tires when it comes to high performance applications. No doubt Chinese stuff is made better than it was 10 years ago, and 10 years ago than it was 20 years ago. All I know is until about 10 years ago Chinese made tires were shit and that still crosses my mind.

Mounted my tires today, and painted the lettering.

Vic, if they are Z rated, don't worry. If they inspect meat and stamp it, I'm sure DOT would not let in Z tires that would explode and all that, so I doubt the tires are going to do anything funny like separate or leak, etc., keep adding to the list. Go for it. Just warm up the tires before you enter a fast tight turn.

W rated, and like I say I'm sure the'll be a good tire. I'd prefer something (USA, Germany, Japan) other than Chinese. Just in the lettering the quality difference was obvious. On the Germany made tire, there was one noticable flaw in the molding of every letter I painted. On the Chinese made tire, there were dozens, and some of the lines were different widths, like in the DIABLO. The inner sections of the tires were completely different, the germany made tire was smooth but had mold lines (same on the outside). The chinese tire is all bumpy on the inside.

Does any of this mean it's going to blow apart at 180 mph? Hell, probably slightly.

Installed my new tires tonight, and new screen and levers. Ordered some Probolt too, screen kit, bar ends, and body kit. I'm a little behind, came down with a bad cold starting Christmas and just today getting better. I definitely recommend Zicam for colds or even being sick.

Next is valve clearance inspection...

+1 on the Zicam.

Good luck on the valves. I suppose you are at about 12,000 miles now? Probably all still in spec, if so.

15k miles. Got the throttle bodies out yesterday. Probably won't work on it today. I may remove the old tires off the other set of rims today but probably won't work in the garage.

I'm on my 3rd set of Angel GTs with the last two pair having the /55 on the rear, which I've come to appreciate. I was thinking about going to a sportier compound on the front since the rear always wears out first, but I change them as a pair. Would like to stick with the same brand f&r. Anyone else done this mix-and-match successfully?

Just got a set of Pirelli rosso corsa's. Quick question I have before I mount them. How old is to old for a new tire? The rear tire was made the 35th week of 2015 which seems normal, but the front they sent me was made the 8th week of 2014. Dunno? I feel like it will be fine, but I would rather the front was a year newer. Both tires made in Germany. Any advice welcome. Thanks

10 years if stored properly (70-80F indoors, out of sun light). some people choose 5 years. The tires I've ordered this year have been from '13-15.

Your tires are definitely fine unless there are obvious signs that give you reason to question. Corsas bet those will be some nice tires.

Thanks Vic. I am looking forward to trying the rosso corsa's. I'll let you know how they stack up against the Q3's that I'm currently running.

I've got tires sitting for years for rotational sets.
A deal comes along, I squirrel'em.
I'm at a ton of fun wink-wink with the ones I'm on now.
How many years does it take to go thru tires?
Up to the last drop, a ton to the end is still fun is how many times does that tire take a road beating and at what speed are we concerned about?
I go down on worn/cold/past the edge tires, not a few years old is a new tire.

I go thru a rear tire in 2500-3000 miles, unfortunately that takes me most of the summer. I always change my tires in sets, the fronts are usually still in pretty good shape.

After reading all the posts, I think I will try the Pirelli Angel GT's. Just don't know if I should go with the 55 or 50?

If you haven't tried a 55, go for it. I can't say how much better it will be for you but it certainly won't be worse.

I too always change in sets, but I use a Michelin Pilot Power 3 front and Pilot Road 4 GT rear...fairly aggressive canyon rides mostly, get about 6k out of the rear, fronts just starting to look a bit frazzled, could probably push a bit more, but don't want to gamble on the front going away...I have not tried the Angels, but have heard good things...
