2016 model speculation.
09/08/15 10:07 AM

is it that time of the year yet when we look for snippets on the changes/new model for the new year? I read from time to time that Big K is "bound" to take supercharging further with a blown lighter more powerful 7-800cc model to compete with Yamaha's run away success with the MT range but to my mind it is pure speculation. Unless Suzuki throw big bucks at the 'Busa then the 14 is all on its own in a small but important global market with some owners now on their third or fourth 14. With the current fad of electronic everything and getting worse I hope Big K refrain with some common sense on what folk really want/need in a top quality top class sport touring motorcycle. Just my opinion.

Suzuki is up to something, I have heard a new busa is in the works, but probably not until next year, they
supposedly have a new 1000 with variable valve timing, should be interesting .....

Kawasaki is going to upgrade the ZX-10 soon, but haven't heard anything about the 14 ..

I put 50K on my silver 08 and just turned 51K on the green 2012. I have really been hoping for something new and different to show up this year other than different paint schemes. The only thing that I don't have is an ABS system. We will have to wait. I have looked around on line, but have seen nor heard nothing new.

Color palate change and or "bold new graphics". The 10r is getting all the changes for next year.

my guess is the 14 is still a year or two away. maybe more, since its still the dominant hyperbike. Suzuki hasn't responded with anything yet, so there's no rush.

Suzuki has shown no signs whatsoever of taking on a project that would significantly beat down the 14R. It could happen but they have been calling it in with all their models since the recession. The new V-strom looks good but nothing revolutionary.

I think we'd all prefer it this way, the longer they sit on their hands the longer we get to be king. And if you're bored, grab a used 14 and turbo it! Cheaper than a new Busa!

Suzi doesn't have the $$$$$$ to toss on developing a 14R slayer.

Hyper bikes are a narrow market and a drain on the bottom line.

Personally if I could change anything about the 14R, it would be more sport and less tourer. The biggest change is needing to drop weight, be roughly the same weight as Ninja 1000 (~525 lbs) or if possible even sub 500 lb, the lighter the better. Shorten the wheelbase an inch or so. People that want a big powerful tourer should really be looking at Concours.

I'm not sure the impact this would have on the market. I don't think it would impact it heavily, 14 sales aren't that great anyway. Heck given how many 14s end up being clearanced might even boost US sales.

Basically go back to what a 12R was... 57.1" wheelbase instead of 58.3 and 545 lbs instead of 590. It would still hold you over dick eating fat ass!

Suzuki announced 2016 Busa in Japan. No changes from 2015 except colors.

I agree, I don't think they have the bank roll to truly dump in to R&D. They have been hurting in the States for a while now.

They stopped selling cars here and Kawi stomped on their balls with the 14. I would speculate and say the only people buying new Busa's now are Fanboi's and people who have not researched.

I have heard a lot of moto-vloggers talk up the ZX10 more than the Gixxers as well. I think they only thing they have going for them is the M109's... since Kawi' ditched the 2000 cc bike and Honda stopped making the VTX 1800 (dumbasses).

Hahahaha Vic & Nasty... You're both a-holes IMHO

Privates apart, I would like to slightly hijack the thread - my apologies OP...

Vic, why do you recommend the N104 helmet? I recently picked up a Shoei Neotec Modular; it's a great helmet in terms of practicality, noise, ventilation and general build quality but it has one serious issue... At high speeds it vibrates like a MoFo... I sent Shoei and email and they nicely told me im an idiot for doing high speeds in a modular helmet and that the helmet is not tested for much over legal speed limits... I have been contemplating replacing it with a Nolan N104 but am worried of running into the same issue.. Have you tried that helmet at higher speeds?

Thanks in advance and my apologies for the off-topic question.

I have a Bell Evo modular helmet and it does not vibrate at max speed, BUT the wind noise is bad so I wear earplugs but besides that I love the helmet.

Before I answer I have to ask WWAAD? (what would an asshole do)

JK it's not that I recommend the N104 above anything else. I bought one, it's a great helmet and if you said "hey should I get a N104?" I'd be like "bet!"

As far as high speed stuff I experience none of these "vibrations" you describe. Actually might want to check one out, really great helmet and mid-range price. N104 particularly is well known for good ventilation, low noise, and nice viewport.

No sir.. the vibrations in the Shoei arise anywhere after 110-120mph... I've taken that helmet up to 180mph but it was a very unpleasant experience...

The reason I've considered the N104 is because I had an N43 before the Shoei (still use that helmet actually so 'HAVE' is more appropriate of a word) and it never had any issues in terms of vibration and I loved the easy clicker strap but wind noise is hell in that helmet... So much so I have to wear noise isolating earphones and blast music even when riding at average highway speeds... I initially wanted the N104 but the sales lady at the store I bought the helmet from in Virginia talked me into the Shoei.

I think I'm gonna pick one of those N104s up... The Red and black one goes perfectly with the 14's color scheme

I agree with Vic (gulp)

The potential revisions of the 14R should be reduced weight, wheelbase, wnd overall bulk

It's a hellishly fast sport bike so play up its assets even more. The heavy, comfy touring concourse has already been done

Nice Blown... you'll love it. I do love the chin strap clicker too. I figured it was something higher end helmets had these days, but apparently not. Indeed, much nicer than the old strap n hoops.
