shorai battery
07/12/14 7:53 PM

Ok it's time to get shorai battery the site calls for a LFX21A6-BS12 , I was wondering if anyone has tried a higher ah battery or is the 21ah from shorai the highest one they have that will fit . I would like to know the best charger maintainer for the shorai battery.

Any help is appreciated olfool.

I have the LFX14A2-BS12

Smaller. Terminals are reversed so I have to put it in with + to the inside but there is plenty of cable to reach. Works great. Needs a GOOD 36 hours or so on CHARGE mode before I start up in the Spring.

Use the Shorai charger/maintainer. That's the only kind of charger that will balance the cells.

I believe Kruz ended up buying one that had more CCA than the one Shorai recomends. He was happy with it and AFAIK, he still is using it.

The info should be in this thread.

Awful lot of reading. Maybe you should just try PMing Kruz.

Thanks for the replies I looked though the link you posted , I didn't read all as I read slowly but the biggest draw back is in cold weather as I live in Arizona, and we haven't had a winter here in at least a decade ,ha ha. I am also a fair weather rider if it's cold or wet I don't ride. I would also like to know if you can charge the battery with the shorai charge it with out removing the battery.

Any help is appreciated oldfool

Yeah, I have never removed mine for storage. The charger comes with a wire you plug in under the rubber cap on the battery and it stays on the battery like pigtails that come with conventional chargers. I leave the wire on and tuck it up in the battery compartment. You can pull it down when you need to charge.

Yes, mine functions best in warm weather but it gets the job done in 40 degree F weather too...and it is a smaller battery than Shorai recommends. The first start of the season is when it needs the BIG charge up.
