Have not been on here long, but a couple of you guys here have answered some posts of mine. Would like to thank you for that.
I was all over the internet and here last night looking for stuck seat(s) and latch etc. I ran into a bit of trouble installing the OEM Kawasaki centre stand kit. The kit is very complete. Grab handle and new trim piece to slightly relocate seat latch lock. This is where the trouble began. The seat latch lock has 2 cables. 1 for the middle of the seat and one for the rear latch. It was getting dark and started to rain, so I put the underseat plastic piece back on and put the seat back on.....BAD IDEA!!!! The seat would no longer unlatch!! I tried several times to get it but no way was it coming of. Now the rear latch did not latch, but the middle one did so I could lift the seat up slightly, but could not do anything. In my defence the Kawasaki instructions are not very clear about this step, plus the impending rain etc etc.
Thought about it all day....brought some tools home from work...long hook tools and low clearance socket driver screwdriver etc. By lifting the rear part of the seat I could unscrew the passenger grab handle and the 2 screws for the triangular centre trim piece. From there I could get to the 2 rear screws for the under seat trim and the quick rivet. Move that outwards and undo the plastic cable shield and you can see the lock and u clip that holds it. I had inadvertently reversed the cables in my hurry to get out of the coming rain. The cable with the metal guide around it goes on the inside towards centre of bike....this one is the middle seat latch.
Just thought maybe this will help someone in the future!!! Had nightmares about broken bodywork or mangled cables trying to unlatch the thing....
I should have known better....but in the end it was Ok.
