Notice my battery on the 14R is still alive and kicking even after 3 years. On my Honda 1000RR, it gave out after two years so curious, with your 14, how long has your battery lasted?

Most lead-acid batteries are warrantied for a year and they last aout 3 if well-maintained. The gel and agm's are warrantied for 2 years and I replaced one after 6 years.

5-6yrs on average. Let me break it down. Wet the OE (2009 aprilia) battery. Sold it in 2015 = 6.
Wet the OE 2008 14 and sold it in 2013 = 5.
1. BS = Battery [acid] Supplied... do not charge, but first, let the plates soak for over an hour.
2. Math = Say 12n means the volts and battery post positions. Say 14a means: charge for 14 hours with a 1.4 amp rated battery charger. If it was a 12a battery, check your charger now to see the rating. You need at least a 1.5a rated charger to charge a 14a.
3. Process = That was the first charge was to cook it for 14 hours. This means 3 discharges. Better to use jumper cables to hook to a high beam and a brake light bulb; running the battery down to 1 or 2 volts. Then fully charge it once again, drain it, charge it and install.
4. Science = You cannot separate mag/heat/chemRe... is the given. The chemical reaction is going to coat the cable and battery posts with that white acid powder. The antidote (chemRe) is vaseline coated on the cable, bolts, nuts, and battery posts.

2.5 years for the stocker. I guess it depends on mileage more than years. My busa stock battery is still cranking 6 years later but it only has 11,000 miles on it.
The Shorai in my 14 has been trouble free for 40k miles/6 years.

Yeah interesting but throughout the year, I always start my bike at least one a week to get the juices flowing and throttle it up a little and all seems good to go. No loss of power...yet shall I say.. so pretty content with the stock battery life thus far. Years ago I used trickling stuff on my previous bikes but over the last two ..three bikes..no need.

I would recommend a replacement..Shorai...with battery tender.Mine works awesome.Been on my H2 for almost two years...no issues. My 14 has a stock battery...with a tender. No problem there either. It's been in there for over two years.I do believe the stock bat will go around three years. You don't want to have it go dead 'instantly'.Rook made a great point. If things are going wacky on the display..it's close for sure.
Hub has a good post...he knows what he's talking about.(not that anybody else here doesn't;) )

Mine just hesitated during cranking a few times at the end of the riding season. I went to start it after storage, key on and the fuel/engine temp gauges flashed in alternating fashion accompanied by a strange clicking noise like when a turn signal is out. The starter didn't turn at all. I think if yu wait for the gauges to flash, it's too late. That happens after the sediment or whatever collecting in the bottom of the battery has reached a height where it shorts the battery out.
