San Diego to Durango to Zion
05/02/16 4:26 PM

Happy to report that pending time off approval from the boss man, will be planning a San Diego to Durango to Zion to Laughlin to San Diego loop.

Rough plan looks like this:
Friday, June 17th, lovely freeway blast in 100+ heat from San Diego to Phoenix where I have some friends to house and beer me for a night. Saturday, June 18th, from Phoenix up to Payson to Heber-Overgaard eventually to Gallup NM to Durango. Long day, roughly 470 miles or so, some nice roads, but a lot of interstate too. Thank baby Jesus for Throttlemeister and Corbin! Sunday, June 19-Thursday June 23, will have a cabin on a lake outside of Durango...plan is to do a loop every day, maybe a little fishing, and a lot of relaxing! Definite plans to hit Silverton, Telluride, Pagosa Hot Springs etc. Great riding around there, will try to find some new roads too! Thursday, June 23, ride from Durango to Zion National Park. Friday, June 24 from Zion to Laughlin for an afternoon/night of some gambling and maybe a few dozen beers! Saturday, blast across the desert, roughly 5 hours on the freeway home. Should be about a 2000 mile or so trip, longest on the new bike so far!

US 550, Durango-Silverton-Ouray, Red Mountain Pass. The Million Dollar highway is one of the best motorcycle roads I've ever been on. If you have time, make a right at Montrose and take US 50 across Monarch Pass, another gooder.

Hi Danno!
Thanks for the tip, I have done the loop from Silverton to Ouray to Montrose, but then headed South towards Creede on the 149 and eventually looping through Pagosa Springs on my way back to Durango...I am going to try to work in this Monarch pass..This is my 5th or 6th time hitting Durango, it is such a nice easy trip from San Diego. Finally booked a tour/hike for Mesa Verde National Park, and will probably also rent a dirt bike for a bit up in Silverton to check that out.
