Steps 13 and 14 here.

You also will see the license plate light wire in step 14. It is the smooth black wire that runs under the ECU snd goes down the hole in the udertail.

I helps to hold the rubber retainer stable with your palms, then push the ECU forward with your fingers from behind. It's just a tight fit. There are no fasteners that need to be removed.

I always just remove the tool kit box, then grasp the connectors there, and gently wiggle it out while holding the rubber part that goes across the ecu.

I also remove the toolbox and just lift the ecu/relay box off the 2 projections that hold the rubber case.

Remove toolbox and spray a little silicone, slides right out.

SIlicone's the lube for rubber but I recently read that it also causes rubber to swell a tiny bit which makes it an excellent seal for O rings (in certain applications). If the rubber already fits extremely tight DON'T use silicone. I've had a hell of a time getting my steering stem mount out after using silicone a short time earlier. I had to tap it up with a wood dowel inserted from belo the steering stem. The O-rings on the mount already fit so tight, I decided a little lube might help the thing slide out but instead, it got tighter.

Silicone will swell rubber a little, but the ECU holder isn't that tight to begin with, never had any problems.

I'm sure it would be just fine for the ECU boot. The swelling is minuscule. It might even be of benefit if tightens up a hair after the the ECU gets pulled a few times.
