Ride with partner or leave them at home?
01/25/15 7:01 PM

Hey guys, I was just wondering how many of you guys ride with your partner/wife etc (pillion or on their own bike) or do you leave them at home? If you ride with your other half do you intercom? Or prefer the quiet?

Just curious

(I tried to start a poll but it didn't work ...)

DAMN! Four tries! LOL

Hope this becomes the only one people post on or else you'll be a busy boy.

If the third option is "wife stays home" I say hell yeah to that. She divorced me and ain't noway she's getting on any bike I own whether I'm riding it or not!
Sometimes i take the kids for a ride but it's mostly pretty slow.

My 2nd wife LOVES to ride and LOVES to go fast. So, now I ride like she isn't even on the bike and we have a ton of fun. We haven't gotten an intercom yet but we're planning to at some future date. I bought a shock from Flea Bay that had a heavy duty Racetech spring on it and took the bike in and had the suspension set up for 2-up which corrected the weird tire wear issues I was having. So I say if you find the right woman it can be a great thing.

My wife rode all the time with me, tried the intercom thing but at that time the quality was crap and all you got was wind noise. Then for her 35th birthday I bought her,her first bike. So now she rides on hers or if we do a fast ride then she rides pillion. Also long trips or rallies she still rides with me. Problem is she falls asleep now and then, and that's not cause I ride too slow it's because she is so comfortable with high speed. As Mad says its like she's not there.

My wife hates my bike, and would love nothing more than to see it burn to the ground.

My fiancé likes to ride on occasion, but not much

but she wont tolerate speed over about 85 and hates cornering

No intercom. Our only communication is a sharp poke in my side when I get over 85 or come into a corner too hot. Lol

Lol. She falls asleep when she rides pillion with me.
She has had a few different bikes since then, now she prefers high speed on my bike. On her bike she likes to just take it easy.

One day while I was at work my wife calls me to inform me that she and her daughter were at Thunderhill Raceway getting laps with a local club champion friend of ours on his ZX10R racebike. He was doing wheelies the entire length of the straight with her on the back and she was dragging her hands in the corners.....and I'm at WORK!!!! BITCH!

My wife loves to ride with me. We do intercom and it a good way for us to get out. Hoping one day we will get her a bike so she can ride when she wants to.

I don't ride with anyone on the back.Once...but that was it.She fell asleep as wellLOL!Several times during the ride.If I'd had known that...she wouldn't have been on there at all.

Knowing how fast things can go totally bonkers...I don't take people on rides.I ride pretty fast actually(sometimes)...most wouldn't like it...can't blame em.

I take my wife to keep the peace. She comes with me to bike night to see what I'm up to. My other theory is to check and see how I behave around the other ladies. My preference is to leave her at home. She complains when I'm a hair over the posted limit. I don't mind taking her though. She is 90 lbs wet and 5 feet tall. A backpack really. I took the rear passenger foot pegs off my 14 and now she is relegated to the 12 r.

That said we all have trouble with the following temptation ie the beautiful tatted babe half our age wanting a ride home.

My GF will ride with me but only on the beemer. She wanted her own ride so she took the starter course and got her license and the X gave her the old non-running ZL600. Even with a 28 in seat height them feet have problems finding the ground but she tries. She has fallen over twice sitting still for lack of ground under the feet so now she is looking at a Can-Am for the next ride.
Downfall is she will probably be laid off in the next couple months.

That's too bad on both accounts. ZL600 isn't a small bike by any means, probably just as much weight as footing. Unless she's tripod-tip-toed even if it tips a little out of balance she should be able to stop it. I mean, how's she tip it onto the side stand with out it busting it off (rhetorical question)?

Maybe a couple other things to consider, getting the seat customized to allow for better footing, or possibly aftermarket seat. Neither are free, but definitely cheaper than a Can-am. The other option is go down to something like a 250-300 which are also lower and lighter. I can't think of many situation's the Can-am is the superior choice, I'd rather just buy a convertible.

My wife has a can am and she has fun on it. They aren't anything like a bike really, but you do get to wear a helmet and have a little danger in your life. She tried riding a bike and didn't enjoy it at all.

^^went to a can am ride. Got talked to twice and threatened to be kicked off if I continued wafting the front wheel while aggressive cornering. All in a days work for us hooligans. I was baffled how unstable they were under hard cornering though. I can also see the appeal.

We went and test rode the Spyder, and I wouldn't mind us getting one. On all our trips the most I remember of the scenery is the stripe down the center of the road. I have to spend so much time screening for gravel, oil, rocks and what not that I don't get to enjoy the scenery. When we test rode the Can Am, she piloted and I was passenger and it was real nice. I could imagine sitting back there looking at the trees and sipping a beer.....
On the other hand you do have to learn a whole new type of body positioning if you want to stay aboard during cornering.
AND, they wanted $28,000!!! I can buy a new Challenger for that!!!

For me riding is a lonely business. Wife not interested. Cruisers go too slow. Sport bikes go too fast. I ride my pace my way, alone and love it.

And when I want to wick it up, I do so to get the juices flowing at my discretion. Otherwise I'm very cautious.
