Engine Damage!!
12/21/14 10:49 PM

Hey guys, I'm really leaning towards the whole ecu reflash mod. I'm concerned about how beneficial this mod
could be for drag racing. At the end of every Tuner site who flashes Ecu's there is a statement that says, "not responsible for premature engine damage". For the guys who have had this done, how likely is it to cause premature engine failure?

Thanks for the help!

Of course there has to be a disclaimer so they're not liable. Just make sure you go with a reputable company like Brocks, cblast, or romans. Using quality fuel you shouldn't have a problem with any of them.

What he said ^^. All aftermarket parts say, "for closed course racing only." If any mods are even suspected of causing damage, we'd have heard about it. Flashing doesn't seem to be a problem. The only negative I'v heard is that it can be impossible to return the ECU to stock settings. I believe this is on the Gen2 ZX-14, only. Romans and Ivan were on a thread about this in the last couple weeks.

Pretty shocking thread title for a question about flashing.
A good and fair question, but I wanted to see pistons and stuff.

I'm concerned about how beneficial this mod could be for drag racing.

Pro: The jury is out as to who to choose. Each has its own tune so it comes down to the rider.
Con: No offense, just money better spent on the practice. How good am I that I need a flash when I can't even play out a good number, meaning, come close to a stock performing bike's number or said another way, what is your number against someone's number on this site? So heads up, are we ready for a flash? And that still says; turn the key and the flash shows a code and does not start; the company cannot return the ECU back to stock so it says the mod is on you, you had to mod; you knew it going in; the flash was the wrong choice and now pay again; and again the odds of the ECU turns into a brick; the bike into a boat anchor.

At the end of every Tuner site who flashes Ecu's there is a statement that says, "not responsible for premature engine damage".

Translation:
Q: My bike detonated it was like someone threw in marbles into the cylinder chamber.
A: Our flash works within its parameters, not a problem with ours so look somewhere else.

Q: My TPS fell out because I broke the clip taking the flies out, anyway it never detonated like this.
A: Our flash works within its parameters and did you say you broke the clip and it fell out while racing?

Q: My thought was to remove the throttle body and didn't know where to start and yes, I hold the clip now
A: Our flash says to hold on to the bars with both hands and you are holding a clip down?

Q: My mistake is your fault it never made noise when it was stock so I let it hang off the sensor.
A: Our flash is all tabled out within its parameters and it's in your hands now, no pun intended.

Q: My, that is going to be hard to race with my hand acting as a clip I snapped off anshit.
A: Our flash is do I have to repeat myself about the way you tamper with the bike and one more tamper is blame our flash?

Q: My thought was I could get away slipping that under your nose, but now I see how that translates.
A: Our flash is cashit and tough shit on your end on this 50/50 transaction it's returned as a brick. Wee smelled yourshit coming is the disclaimer translated.

The jury is out as to who to choose. Each has its own tune so it comes down to the rider.

I must admit, I have not tried it yet but it seems to me it comes down to the rider's bike too. If you flash a tune from Ivan's (just for example) ZX-14, you have fueling for Ivan's ZX-14 modded how ever he had it at the time. If you own Ivan's ZX-14 motor with all of his mods when he tuned it, you should have a perfect bike. I have Rook's bike with Rook's mods so I'm sticking with my PC and Auto-tune when I flash. I guess if you don't want to deal with the danger and the digital gadgetry tuning out on the road, having AFRs flashed is no worse than running a different map in your PC. I don't hear complaints about it. Only problem is if you don't like the flashed map, you can't just change it like you could on a PC.
