Did not end up getting a detector ... YET ... and maybe now I'll have time to ... since we've re-scheduled the trip for the end of the month.

If anyone is interested, I have a mounting bracket for an Escort 8500 that, used in conjunction with the Escort suction cup mount, makes a secure and well-aimed place for a rd on a ZX14. Cannot be used with a stock windscreen as it mounts the Escort over the instruments. PM me for a pic and details.

How do you guys feel about how often the detector's get random trips. I mean, last time I used my 8500's they go off all the time now with so many cars having radar cruise, car warning crap. and lane keep assist, and all those other radar emitting doo dads. Haven't looked into whether the laser headlights and auto leveling headlights that use a laser to aim themselves effect detectors.

Been just turning mine off unless I'm out on open road having fun. Goes off way to often around town and traffic. I have the 9500I Bluetoothed to my Sena 20s and it gets real annoying with all the false alerts. I have had a couple laser hit but didn't think about the laser aligned lights? Hadn't heard about those.

ok, at least last year laser headlights weren't in the US yet. Audi is offering them in high end models (r8 etc) and will probably trickle down. "Laser headlights also boast at being much brighter than LED or HID lights, so bright in-fact that LASER headlights only kick in when you drive in speeds excess of 60km, anything below then the LED lights take over so it will be tricky showing these lights off in any urban setting. '

BUT THEY ARE COMING. https://www.engadget.com/2018/08/08/audi-matrix-lights-led-laser/

I thought the auto adjustable ones in cadillac etc also had laser for self sdjustable aiming, not laser light emitting for light production.

but, its coming. Time will tell if it messes with lidar. My gut says no because every headlight would render them useless. unless they only aim at taillights.
