6K+ freight train
09/18/14 8:16 AM

I was wondering why this big ZX feels like it's pulling like a freight train even more starting around 90 and up ... almost like a 2-stroke hitting its power band. Then it dawned on me that Kawi delays the flies opening early in the RPM range. And then I remember reading that they're not fully open until 6K RPM. 6K RPM in 6th gear is at about 100 mph. I guess this is why it seems to go from 90 to 140-ish so much easier than my 90's CBR900's?

Go watch Cap10's 207 run and watch the tach keep pulling past 11,000 rpm... in 6th is it? I didn't count. Either way,

What does the re-flash do to mileage?

Mine is down 1.5-2 mpg average with the addition of full exhaust, flash, and a tune. I track my mpg every fill up.

BUT no matter how hard I ride, I still get 34-36 mpg. Before it was more like 36-38. I did have a best of 40.xx for one tank, but that was a long ride at highway speeds.

See the way she pulls those off and you see those 2 bolts... I mean take the tool kit out of the box. Take those [6mm bolts] out and that gains access to the ECU. Push the bottom two clips of the ECU in more. This makes any drag on the tongue drop down easier and now press down on the center tang and pull straight out. Do the same to the cream colored connector is it?

Then, zig-zag the ECU out of the rubber holder, say goodbye to a few top end ponies and more stops at the filling station as in, 'no turning back'... Unless you want to pay for it again going back to stock is it?

He may claim it, but with the increased thrust in the midrange it may be almost impossible to realize those gains.

IE, I probably ride my shit harder now that its flashed and louder. I like the feel and noise when its opened up.

So, I don't actually see the improvements. make sense? Just reporting what I can say for sure. Its ONLY down 1.5-2 mpg from stock. No matter how hard I ride it, I still get over 34mpg. Ill take that for a 25ish rwhp gain. (all mods factored in).

And that's average for a whole tank. YES, the instant fuel mileage still shows over 50 at cruise depending on the road and speed with light throttle application.

I have Ivan's reflash and a PCV with Ivan's map, get about 41-42mpg at 70 mph. Biggest benefit is an engine that pulls strong from ANY rpm and is turbine smooth.

Pulling the ECU is super easy, remove 4 screws from the tool box and remove it, slide the ECU out of the rubber holder, and unplug it, less than 5 minutes. Have heard some say they don't pull the tool box but it really is easier that way and it's only 4 screws.

You can reflash without a PCV, Cblast and a couple of others change the fueling in the ECU and don't need a PCV, I prefer the PCV because it lets me make mapping changes in just a couple of minutes with my laptop. PCV isn't cheap and takes a while to install since you have to remove a lot of bodywork but is worth it to me.

Either way is good, just a difference in philosophy, what you will gain is something that has to be experienced!!!

I recommend the C Blast flash no PCV needed, runs cooler, slightly better gas mileage than stock, smoother TC operation, RMP limit raised, top speed limiter removed, fuel and ignition maps adjusted correctly, and laughing loudly in your helmet when you grab WOT.

I think more power below 4K is my main goal, does that make it worth it?

Is the question "do you loose your gear indicator WITH a flash?" NO you dont. Mine works just fine.

No loss of the gear indicator and smooth creamy torque all the way from idle to red line

Sweet. That was the main reason keeping me from flashing was I thought you lost the gear indicator. Ohh I see a flash this winter.
