Idle Cable - Admission of stupid!
04/12/24 4:20 AM

2008 ZZR1400 here in UK.

I have inadvertently unscrewed my idle cable adjuster so far that it fell out!!!

Stupid is as stupid does I know, but I now want to put it back in, (obviously).

I've followed Rook's excellent How To's on removal of fairings & fuel tank, but still don't have easy access.

Has anybody been as stupid as me and gone through this before?

Cheers

PS. Rook has kindly sent me this already.

The throttle adjustment cable goes to the the spring coil on the actuator of the throttle bodies. If the cable was fully unscrewed, you probably lost the small tension spring on the cable and maybe a washer. I've never removed the cable so I don't know how hard it is to install. From my photos, it looks very simple. You'll probably find photos showing the parts I'm talking about but I will post a picture to show you in your recent thread.

After doing some searching on this forum, I think I've found my best advice.

It's on step 15 of Rooks "Throttle Body Assembly Removal" How To

which says - "15. Rout the idle speed adjuster cable as shown and secure it into the black plastic
retainer clamps."

Hope this helps anybody else whos been as dumb as me.

Thanks Rook.

Dude don't worry about it. We've all made mistakes. I broke a bolt off in my rotor because I followed the OEM torque spec for an aftermarket wheel that had a smaller rotor bolt. This is an easy one but you will need to order the correct parts if you haven't recovered them.

Cheers Rook,

Luckily I found the parts on my drive!!

All fitted now, but a PITA.

If anyone else does this, a bit of advice.

1. You don't need to remove the fuel tank. I did, but needn't have in the end.
2. Use a paper clip bent into a little hook to help you guide the screw end into the housing.
3. Do it outside in sunlight, instead of a dark garage with a mini torch!!!

Dude, I was a little worried for you, I must admit but you got it!!! There's lots of guys who wouldn't bother with this sort of thing. The patient's not going to die on the table so you can wrap it up and come back to it later as necessary. Congrats on taking your time and figuring it out how to do it. It sure does take some time though, doesn't it?
