the vid tells me "entry level" even though I've ridden motorcycles since about age 9 or 10 (I'm 45 now) and have had 5 different sportbikes since 1993

I can easily see why the more experienced riders would score low. If they've been riding a while, they probably ride in a way that would be more risky to less experienced riders. It's not so in your particular case but the longer a person has been riding (fast) the more likely they have had some accidents and/or tickets. Also, you did start out on a smaller bike a long time ago so if your score for then was low, you did the rite thing. I don't think the test assumes that a more risky person should NEVER ride a large sportbike, just probably they will be less of a danger on a smaller one when they start learning.

I'm sure it also skews results when experienced older riders answer some questions based on the past, and some on the present. We need a newbie rider to take the test. Where's wolfie?

Before your criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you do criticize them, you're a mile away and have their shoes.

As far as your other questions, are you the target audience of this assessment?

I guess not? Although others here took it, so I thought I would, too.

Maybe you were projecting when you thought I was defensive. Re-read your original post and your reply, you should pick up on your own defensiveness.

I asked you two follow-up questions, neither were meant as rhetorical questions. Since you viewed them as rhetorical questions, it's no wonder you thought I was being defensive.

I will ask you another question, it is NOT RHETORICAL, what does the assessment state about scores lower than 6 (and no, it's not that it's entry level).

Go ahead and take it grn...whats the worse that can happen? Theres room on the sidewalk for two tricycles. Seriously though I took it and scored a seven, it's pretty accurate in my case. I did think the video and sound was a distraction though, if nothing else this video can determine if you have attention deficit disorder in less than 6 min.lol. Overall I think it would be helpful to get someone on a bike that suits them best.

What threw me off was that many of the answers to select are numeric and they all have a number in front of them which does not correspond to the answer at all except to tell how many points it is worth.

How many tickets have you received for major violations in the last 5 years?

3) One

4) Two - three

8) Four or more

i think you'll do just fine, Grn. You've been stopped a few times but never get a ticket. Even if you did get tickets, you have points to spare. (yep, I pretended i was you!)

I understand how some find the background audio/video distracting. I figured if someone found the bike noise annoying or distracting, they could mute the audio. I darkened the video quite a bit and lowered the volume, and used a contrasting color for the text to help it stand out. I think if there was just black background screen people would be complaining there should be some kind of video!

I understand how the point/numbers are a bit confusing. I struggled laying it out and changed the layout a few times to make it clearer. I got it about as good as I could without spending several more hours on the project. It's clear enough I think most people understand what needs to be done.

I perform analysis and design screens for a living. It's not my best work but as far as the production values one of the better vids imo that I've produced (moved on from Windows Movie Maker to something else). I even bought tripods to start making videos with, so my newer videos will just be better and better.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hell I'm not even sure how I got a job like mine! No really I have a BS in computer info systems. I'm a programmer/analyst. I really enjoy my work and am pretty good at it but have a lot to learn (in IT always more to learn...ALWAYS! which is one thing I like about it)

I agree with a bunch of this, just adding some to what you said, as the experience goes. Ride for a long time, and you know your limits, or how far you want to push your limit, and that can affect the score too. I have been riding for 40+ years, starting with a Trail 90 and now with the 14. multiple fast inbetween, plus MotoX bikes etc. I know what it feels like to fall on dirt multiple times, and its not fun, and that controls my street riding, or sets my limits. I was a lot braver/dumber or whatever at 25 than I am now.

I thought you've been riding for a while, and a lot changed from when I started riding around 15+ years ago. Even the newest 600s at the time were no where near the machines they are today.

So true. My first stupid quick/fast bike was a VMax in the late 80's/early 90's. No 600 and most liter bikes couldn't touch it, until we came to a corner. Friend's 600's that I rode back then were dogs compared to it. I haven't been on a 600 since then, but as you said, based on the tests I've read they are a totally different animal today.

I fix things till they can't be fixed.

..cool test!...i scored a 7.89...i think the whole thing made a lot of sense...the outcome for me seemed true to who/how i am...the 14 isn't my first bike-i started on a 2000 gsxr600, then went a cbr929 which i felt was way too light for the amount of power it had..or maybe i just didn't respect it enough?!...the 14 is definitely my favorite and i don't foresee myself getting any other bike...i DO tend to push the limits, drive 100+ etc etc, but all in moderation....good sh*t!

Shit man...took it now as well...friggin scored a 2.6...WTF?

...Just KiddingLOL!!...7.5 for me...although the 'accident' questions were ambiguous.I've never hit anyone...but I have crashed some of my bikes...totalled two out of four that is...rode the others away;)My 'fault' I guess you would say.Never damaged anyone or anything in those crashes...(except me).So I answered as what I was assuming with those few.Maybe a reword of..."have you ever hit anyone else while riding"...."have you ever disabled your vehicle or someone elses while riding(via crashing)"...but otherwise...cool little test;)Never received any tickets or anything for any of those either...

^^^I think the question is worded something to the effect of "were there any injuries or property damage?" So you're in that slot even though it was jus lil ole you that got himself wracked up. You still get to ride the 14, I bet. Also, this is not your first bike so the test doesn't work for you by todays record.

Grn,

Socket on the nut; extension just past the footpeg or lift the footpeg so the extension is shorter. That's because your breaker bar is on the floor. So socket to extension to breaker bar arm and now roll the bike and slam the breaker bar just off the ground so when it does come down, you have a rag at the elbow of the breaker bar, the arm is parallel with the bike and that means 90° off the elbow so your hit is not kicked out where you lost the direct hit down to pop the nut and force it like that with a breaker.

So you more or less are sitting on the bike, hand with a rag over the elbow of the breaker bar, force it down where the bar is pointed at the back of the bike, you are rolling the bike backwards, the bar wants to move up as you push it down, this turns the nut off in the correct direction or rightea tightea leftea goes loose.

See that rolling back and slamming that breaker bar down? Why the air gun is not doing it? Beats me? If not a slam, rock it back hard on that bar. Of course, don't let it slip off the nut and tear that up.

Try some DeepCreap. Might as well. It will burn away if you heat it again but can't hurt to try it. Also, try getting two wrenches on the nut. You'll need a second set of hands. Very BIG tipover risk with two guys reefing. IDK how you contend with that. I think I'd look at renting a bigger impact gun.

If you are turning counterclockwise, you are turning the engine forward. No harm if the engine turns over a pulse as long as it is forward but maybe a lot of stress on the gears. ...I still don't see how there is enough compression in the engine to hold the crankshaft steady.

Definitely hook up the chain. You need something to hold the nut steady. Use the stock rim.....don't risk that BST. Pad a very strong steel bar very well. Hope you don't crush the paint on the swingarm. Hang a heavy weight on the rear brake pedal.

Try running the motor for 20-30 minutes to get some heat coming from inside. Will it run without the speed sensor in place?

That's all I can think of. Don't fret, Monty. You'll get that sucker off. Take your time. Get some rest now. Don't rush it and strip the corners on the nut.

Like Rook said, Grn, throw the old parts on and stress those old parts, not the new chain. That needs the chain on to make that breaker bar work.

I'll give the chain connect a try...with rear brake.Too little time just now to pull this off...tonight again. Thanks you guys for the help...I KNOW it's gotta come off there....;)It may just need that chain and brake working...as the manual says.

"That needs the chain on to make that breaker bar work"...I wouldn't be surprised one bit!!!!.Never tried to remove a sprocket up front without the chain connected:/

Use a very strong bar through the spokes. I've heard one guy bent the bar, he turned so hard. ...and scuffed up the paint right through the rags he had placed to protect it. Most of all, don't rush it. Always remember how easy it is to tip the bike. I think the safest thing would be to have a guy sit on it and lean to the right with his shoulder braced against the wall. The other guy lifts on the breaker bar pushing the bike toward the wall while turning on the nut. When it turns, I don't think it is just going to let go all at once. It will thread off very stiff the first 1/4 turn.

Or get your hands on a bigger impact.

OKAY!!!;)....did it like the manual said....hold brake,(I put bike in first and moved the spline till she stopped in first)(after installing the new chain)..Applied impact wrench.About three seconds holding twice she let go....SWEET!!!!

VERY simple really...the chain is definitely the key AND the brake. Also a killer impact wrench.I did NOT use the large one(socket)...the 1 and 1/32" or whatever it is...I used the one that fits the other six point area....worked great...very relieved....and again guys...THANK YOU for the help.Got er buttoned up and everything adjusted fine...now for the bodywork...and she'll be ready to roll;)BOTH sprockets were on their 'later' life.Glad I changed em now.The front one I replaced I'd say about 7K...probably didn't need it...but all worked out.So in 14K miles...I've replaced two front tires, three rear tires, two front sprockets...two rear sprockets...and now a chain as well. One set of plugs...and two air filters.Four oil changes...two oil filter changes. Not too bad.considering I didn't spend anything on labor;)Hell...If I can do it...ANYONE can;)
