Guys I threw this out a while ago but my buddy and I are planning a ride across country. We are shipping our bikes to San Deago and planning on riding up route one to navada then Death Valley to Utah and Colorado back to Connecticut. The only roads I know that we have to hit are route one in CA and I think its independence pass in Colorado. I would like to hit bonniville but what else do you guys think? We are only going to get one shot at this so I want to really do it right....

Stick to the coast and mountains, go the Lake Tahoe route, it was 119F in Death Valley a few days ago. But sounds like a great ride!

Hey Somefun, I've offered to others but if you get up to the SF Bay Area and have a free day or 2 my place is open to stay at and I can take you guys on a loop of the twisties around here.

Streetsweeper, the co-pilot and I will be at the WSB races on Sunday only. We are riding down in the morning, taking the twisties back home.
Somefun, a week is shorter than you think We did a 1700 mile trip to Oregon and a week was barely enough to enjoy it.

You can rent a nice sport bike, ok not a zx14, from eagle rider in LA and twist your way up,to,Seattle in a week

I will be riding up with a buddy from San Diego to WSBK and another friend riding down from SF to meet us there. Plan = leave SD Thursday, 16th, spend night in Pismo Beach that night partying away at Harry's Beach Bistro and then ride up on the 1 on Friday to Monterey. Friday and Saturday nights at some hotel near downtown/Alvarado street, then homeward Sunday.

I live in San Diego, so once you know your dates, let me know, I can give you a lot of good ideas for routes North...also just got back from a 2 week trip to Durango, CO, so may be able to help on that too. Either way, enjoy it!

Street we are planning on flying out on the 24th picking the bike up and then riding up the coast.....then bang a right into Nevada. :) I really want to hit Colorado Independence Pass... Heard its awesome for sure.

@timomasalin any ideas would be a huge help for sure! I really wanna see the ride up the coast and then hit the best routes we can heading home to CT. they just picked up our bike yesterday and they will be shiiped to South Bay Motorsports by the 23rd. We plan on flying out on that firday the 24th and picking them up the same day so we can hit the road on the 25th. Colorado is a must see for me....Utah looks pretty good also but don't no any route yet. we are planning the routes this weekend.

I wish ... I'm committed to an all day class on Fri and Sat that weekend - the very end of a long 2 year journey.

The cruse up US 1 is a classic and should not be missed, but set your expectations on a slow cruse with lots of stops and pictures. In the summer there can be long ques of RVs and packs of guys dressed like pirates doing 10 under the posted limit. Take a left at Monterrey and try to hit Yosemite valley and Tioga Pass then up 395 to Tahoe/Reno. If not the Valley and Route 120 over the Sierras, anyone of the other state routes over the Western Sierras South of Tahoe are classics.

Guys what's your best guess that I should wear for gear? We're going to go through Nevada and 505 in Colorado I hate to be cold but with the Death Valley deal my leathers are out I guess.. I was going to bring my mesh jacket and a heated lines and a rain coat to go over it all to break the wind

Sheesh somefun wish I could be of better help. Aerostitch roadcrafter 1 or two piece is prolly the best for touring, going from climate to climate. Then some gortech boots of some kind. I scored on a klim badlands jacket and pants. Havent puttem to the test yet.
