Fuel Filter
05/07/12 3:28 AM

Had problem the other day with a miss in the engine,

Ended up cleaning the fuel filter, found it was full of very fine dust and , it is more than a rock catcher the material its made of will clog up with fine shit.

Got caught out with some dirty fuel I think, as well as build up over time

wash gently in clean fuel and carefully blow with air , keep repeating until clean.

I dont suppose there are any markings or writing on the filter?

But... it looks like the filter protected your injectors.

have 40,000 on my 08 and then this

No numbers, same with the, you get one if you buy a new fuel pump sales pitch.

I thought the injectors would have a fuel filter that was a serviced item, but this is it, a bit weak if you ask me.

Hope my injectors are still good, maybe it did save them.

Put a high flow inline filter before your fuel pump and be done with it!!!

would like to cooter but its in the tank and that would be a major mod also putting it on the suction side could be an issue, even in line after the pump would possibly slow the flow to the injectors and you still need room to do it.

The thing looks like its worth $10 would be great if you could just buy them and do it as a service interval, Poor fuel quality is most likely the fault, you get that everywhere.

Hello Gentlemen.

does anybody know something about these replacement pumps - http://www.highflowfuel.com/i-8927740-new-intank-efi-fuel-pump-kawasaki-ninja-zx1400-zx-1400-zx1400r-zx-1400r-zx-1400r-2006-2011.html ???
the price is not killing but would be nice to buy something that works, and not stop my bike hundreds kilos away from home...
or maybe there is already any solution for the replacement of the pump filter (that's the issue in my case).

Regards,

Daniel

Hi Daniel I found it by googling that part number in your search engine, What I found is that Kawasaki do not sell the part on common parts list websites because the fuel pump is sold as one complete unit. So there is no individual part numbers for the parts in the pump e.g. filter, o-rings and the like that make up the fuel pump.

That is actually just a pickup sock. If it's anything like the older zx10 pumps the true filter is actually inside the pump housing and is non-serviceable. In the picture I used a Dremel and cut the plastiweld line that I noticed all the way around the base of the pump housing assembly. If this is the case with our fuel pump I'm going to repeat this procedure and remove the non-serviceable filter and switch to an in-line filter.

Edit: I just went back and hit the link above and noticed that it says exactly what I said. Anyways I will leave the pic up so you will have an idea how that works.

Maverick:

I see the picture, and that is what the KawasakiWorld.com poster (Ashley) indicates to do (cut pump open, and remove internal filter).

So, I believe this is a somewhat high pressure fuel pump for an FI system.

How did you re-seal the pump housing to assure fuel system integrity, for the life of the pump?

I have not seen the mount-up/ bolt-up for this pump in person, but all I have seen previously, for embedded fuel pumps in a tank, for FI systems, have some part of the pump on the *outside* of the tank (usually the output line).

Is this true for this bolt-up? If yes, does the cut peice of the pump (where it's been cut to get it open), is this part exposed on the tank outside?

As you can clearly read, I have some safety concerns about the whole process. I'll get a new pump before taking alot of risk with dumping fuel on a hot, sparkplug sparking, mebbe on the ground, sliding sparking, motor.

Thanks,
Bob

bump.

I'd really like to know how he did this, what kind of adhesive was used:

"How did you re-seal the pump housing to assure fuel system integrity, for the life of the pump?"

Sorry Meb I didn't see your response. I wish there was a "participated thread" function on this site. I actually didn't seal this particular pump back up because my friend had already purchased a replacement OEM pump. My curiosity got the better of me and I decapitated the pump housing to find that little jewel. I have been meaning to acquire a plastic weld kit for the re-seal process on my 14R pump once I find a suitable high pressure in-line filter. I will post pics when I start that project. OEM hidden filter design is a huge fail and it's only reason is the cash mongering attitude of corporations. That is all....

Thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, please do post when you've decided on a solution: Weld adhesive type, and in-line fuel filter part numbers / brands.

I own three cycles with fuel injection. The pumps look the same. So, I think there are many lo-time cycles that are headed for a good solution with this type of maintenance / repair.

There is a "subscribe" pick at the bottom of a "reply". Choose that when deciding to follow a thread.

Thanks for that part #. I wrote it down on the back page of my shop manual with some other pertinent info Mother Kaw doesn't provide.

Yes, Thanks Very Much.

If it fits (and I'm certainly going to try it), then it's the exact solution we are looking for.

I ordered one for my bike last night. It should be in tomorrow. I'll take a couple pics of it next to my old one and post them here and let you guys know if it fits like it should. Danno what other info do you have that Kawi doesn't provide?

Guys It's 100% confirmed. That part number is a perfect match to the filter off my 2008 zx-14.
