Flat spot at 3800RPM
05/07/09 9:41 PM

I just got my ZX-14 a few weeks ago and I notice that around 3800 RPM the power goes a bit flat, and the engine seems to run rough. Past 4000 it smooths out again but the throttle feels more jerky when u go on and off the power, sorta like on/off. Does anyone else get this? Is this the point where the flies start to open? Maybe a trip back to the dealer is in order.

Or maybe a trip under the tank and into some some throttle bodies? 8 little screws and it's a whole new dance.

Forgot to mention, mine is a 2006 so removing the flies would have the big effect.

^ hahaha! that's what we're here for, hehe. next on the list: power commander, full exhaust, ignition advance 4 degrees, tre 006a, and (i haven't gotten to this point yet) 16 tooth sprocket. the only flat spots you'll be worried about then is from all the torque eating the rubber off your tires

I noticed the same thing on my 08. What I figured it out to be is not the power band at all but the throttle play. That seems to be a RPM that you tend to cruise around on with very little throttle and since my had a lot of freeplay in the first turn of the throttle it made it feel like sudden on/off while riding.

My 07 was like that brand new, might of been factory setup for emissions,a powercommander cured the problem
