Just ordered that tire for my bike.... I went with the shinko hookup in 200/50. I did it for traction issues which I hope will be resolved with it. A fellow friend/rider and forum member had the 190/50 lastyear in the shinko hookup and that thing looked like a frigging car tire on the back. Good for us that need the extra bite (big hp applications) Keep in mind it will slow your bike (weight/inertia) and make it turn in slower. So unless you are having issues with traction I would say steer clear of this size.

If the rim is 190, wouldn't a 200 get squeezed a bit narrower to fit the beads? I thought that would make the tread taller. the extra width is squeezed in so the tire must get taller and sharper, no? Seems like that should make the bike turn in more aggressively...maybe too twitchy for the 14. ...or do I have my tire aspects confused?

Rook, it was slightly higher on mine. Only issue was it rubbed against the hugger. Once I moved that all was fine. Seemed to turn in quicker. Was no problem for normal street riding and with the twisties on a week end.

The 55mm dimension would add about 10 mm to the overall height over stock. That would the case for any 55 tire. A 200 might add even a little more height. IDK? Check out the table posted in th ethread linked to in Eray's post above. I'm not exactly sure what they mean by sidewall height but looks like there is a lot of difference in that depending on what size tire you use. I'd guess the taller sidewalls are more oval shaped (pointier at the center) and the lower sidewalls are closer to a perfect circle.

1stclass, get all the opinions you can from those who have used a 200/55 but I don't think you will know how you like it until you try it. If you haven't tried a 190/55, that would be step between stock and the 200/55. I think you'll appreciate the handling difference by trying a 190/55 and save a few bucks and and a few ounces of rotating mass. If you don't feel the 190/55 is sharp enough for you, go for a 200/55. If that tire makes the bike feel like it will drop out from under you, it will eventually flatten off in the center and then you have something closer to a 190/55..so it seems.

You are right rook, I lost sight of the fact that he wanted the 200/55 not the 200/50 that I have.
That 55 series would be slightly taller for quicker turn in.
The weight will still be there however. That carcass has to be heavier than a 190's.

Haha, and don't forget the weight of the bike will still be there! If you've grown accustomed to a squared off tire and then put a sharp new tire on there with a more aggressive profile, it can be a little shocking. You'll probably feel the extra height in the rear too. I remember feeling that when I went from my way past due stockers to a 190/55. It was a little scary at low speed. The bike does lay right over into a corner from a stoplight.

i bought my bike with a brand new 200 shinko already on it...being that i don't have anything to compare it to (this is my first z14), i may sound biased...BUT, i don't have any issues when leaning and the bike feels secure w/no slip issues...i used to have a cbr929RR, and that had a 190 on it...that bike was much lighter, but for some reason, i feel more comfortable with the 200 rear...i MAY try a 190 one day just for kicks, but as for now, i'm sticking with the 200...previous owner removed the rear hugger, so definitely no rubbing issues...

i had a post up about the new Metzler M7 200rear a few months ago--still undecided

I am currently running a 200/50 on the bike. Fits fine, slightly slower turn in than the 190/55 I had on but you get used to it. The wheel is 6.25" wide. Not sure if that makes much of a difference over the stock size when fitting the 200 series. If you want one go for it!

I run Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsas with a 200/55 rear. Steering is better than stock, with amazing grip at full lean.

The taller/heavier tire will rob a minuscule amount of power, but we have plenty to spare.

That is a M5, I liked the stock grip so I stuck with them. I would like to try the M7 next time around. The 200 does not seem to be wearing as good as the 190 but thats no big deal.
