Your harness will easily handle the lower pull on the electrical system. You "may" need the relay harness however. If you don't mind spending a tad more money...I'd get the harness as well.

Thanks, will get the relay - I need to order this soon, from the pictures, it appears the ones I should order are the "straight" bulb connectors and NOT the 90 degree bends...

Anyone confirm?

Guys, on www.superbrightleds.com I tried to find WLED-NWLX for the leds...

I found this from the search, is this the correct LED for the ZX-14

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&category=CAR&Page2Disp=%2Fspecs%2FWLED-xLX.htm

Thanks, there are several type bulbs, hope this is the one,

I don't think it will matter...straight or angled. My lows are angled...my highs...straight.I'll say this though, the angled ones give you more ability to grip and turn to the "lock" position than the straight ones.May be better to get those instead.

LED's...no idea about those.

I got the 90 degree HID units. Like them because they are easy to lock in and unlock out. I didn't ask DDM Tuning for them, they just sent them that way.

As for the LED, it is straight, but easy enough to turn to lock and unlock. I just used Adhesive Silicon to hold them into the stock socket, and all has been good through a season of long rides, many railroad tracks, and everything else.

ZX14DREW, did you order from DDM Tuning or superbrightleds.com? DDM stated that they are "out of stock" until 10/27/10. Im looking into the 35W 5000K HIDs for lows and 55W 5000K high beams and getting the 194 base LEDs, all from DDM. How was the shipping charges? I think the wife and I will ride down to Huntington Beach and pick them up instead.

See the other HID thread ! :)

You don't need 55w HIDs, if you get 6k 35w H11s, you will have more light than you need. Like a football field out in front of you. Why draw 20 more watts if you don't need them ?

BearsZX72 , yes, they should be shipping HIDs this week...

is this the LEDs from DDM you are getting?

http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/194T10-White-LED-Bulb

Just curious, I don't know anything on them, but I need LEDs and ordered from superbrightleds and we'll see what shows up (can you sense my confidence in this order is not high? ;)

I don't have the bill on shipping, but I would say make it a ride always if its not too far - you can inspect the product yourself and make a day of it...and if defective you might be paying shipping X2 based on company return policy....

Drew, yes those are the 194 base LED's that I will get with my order. Shipping to me, I live about 2 hours from them, was going to be over $18 and take two days. I figured I would make a day out of it and ride to them instead. Check all the parts over to make sure they are correct, have lunch and head back home. Let's know when you receive them and post pictures when you have them installed. Later, Bears!

RE: Hids

Has anyone found, ordered and installed LED 194 "city lights" that fit without modification in to the OEM receptacle??

Has anyone installed the DDM Tuning 194 LEDs? BearsZX72???

http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/194T10-White-LED-Bulb

I just had delivered my bright light LEDs and Im going to send them back, not looking to carve up/modify my OEM recepticles for a light bulb, we must have a LED supplier that fits OEM,

Thanks, flies came out no problem, put in the DDM 55k HID H11s and they are working fine, only issue is DDM is shipping digital ballasts from differant suppliers that are brushed aluminum bodies unlike their web photo black units, and as is they show up a bit more under the windscrean, anyone ordering may want to confirm if you feel you want the black ones.

Again, Has anyone installed the DDM Tuning 194 LEDs? BearsZX72???

Are they a straight replacement with no-hassle fit to the OEM receptacle?

My stock 194s city lights are now orange next to the HIDs...

Hey Drew, No I have not pulled the trigger on the DDM HIDs and 194s. Sorry...

scottjkyl, be careful with the red 194s. I had them in mine for awhile and I kept getting hassled by the local Federal Police Officers as I came to work onto a Military base. It came down to them telling me that I am not an 'emergency' vehicle and by law I was not allowed to run them at all. He told me next time he will give me a ticket for it and not allow me to enter the base. So I looked into the California DMV codes for running lights, and yup it's illegal for anyone, except emergency vehicles, to run red or blue lights in the front of their vehicle. So, I replaced with the stock 194s.

Copy that on the red and getting them from brightlights - thanks

So far this last few weeks:

Flies out
HIDs in for both hi and lows (all 55W 6000K) and installed harness w/relay.

Based on researching the forums, here's my "Performance and Heat reduction Mods". My bike has 6800m, bought used at 550m, runs 3-5 bars hot in traffic. You may not agree with pipes, etc. but if you have em, please comment:

-- Alien head full exhaust system, looking to coat header/pipes to reduce heat signature. Like the minimalist pipe, performance on the dyne? (we'll see), nice to experience my local drag strip one day this winter(open bike/car drag night every friday at my road race track here in west palm) , will have to be respectful of my neighbors.

-- ZX10 C/F front fender. Again, prefer the minimalist appearance over the front end boat anchor, stated air flow improvement to radiator. Some one commented on the front getting light above 150mph+. I race and track my 636 often, I don't have much isolation or emotional need on the road to hammer down 120+

-- My fan motor is making a racket like a bad refrigerator fan, it has the muzzy aluminum blades, I bought a new fan motor off bay

Googled it and found on another forum a link to the Florida law code that says no moving vehicle can have red or blue lights visible from the front - this being reserved for emergency response vehicles.

I ordered the white xHP5 lights from superbright, thanks Jbird

And here is the CA Vehicle Code for the red lights;

"25102. The light source in each of the lamps shall not exceed two candlepower and shall emit diffused light of any color, except that the color red is permitted only on authorized emergency vehicles".

Other than the fact if you get a ticket for something else, the red markers will be added as a second violation, and seriously increase the $ amount of the fine.

OK it's that time for me to start my winter projects on the ZX14 so before I buy some HID's headlights is there some new info. I need to know so I thought I would ask the people who know it best. I have re-read all the treads on HID's so let me tell you what I know or what I think I know. Tell me if I got it right or if I'm close or way off.

I'm going to buy the 55W DDM both highs & lows with a 6000k temp.

I'm going for more light and not a look. The 6000k temp will give me a little bit of blue, Right? An all of this is a plug & play, Right?

So please give me your photo's an feedback on fit/finish as well as installing and anything else I should know about them.

Thank guys

My pics above are 6K's.DDM's.55 Watt. They're just borderline white/blue.Brilliant nightime visibility.White light. When(if)you get them...sounds dumb..but remove ONE AT A TIME from their boxes. They "may" be labeled H9,and H11.If so,just follow your service manual for which type is high and low.

You can....install all four at once.Leave hanging on the harness outside of the bike.Keep them off any bodywork.Do not touch the bulbs with your fingers.Start your bike...let the bulbs burn in for at least 5 minutes.Ideally, they will all light up.Let's hope your set does.Nothing wrong IF one or two do not start first off...just recheck your connections, you should be able to get a full power up with little drama. The ones that "may not light"...switch your polarity on THOSE ONLY.Retry.Leave on for the 5 minutes.

Once all good, install as your stock bulbs, being careful to not force the bulb bases into the stock headlamp sockets by twisting the wiring.Use the base plastic to turn the lamps into the stock fixtures.Do NOT handle these lamps/electricals with your power to your bike ON.Use care when installing the bulbs THROUGH and into the stock metal fixtures. You don't want to crack or scratch the bulb installing it in there.

You will be stoked!Good Luck Black1!

I installed the 55K/6000 hi and lows as well. I installed the aftermarket harness/relay as sold on Ebay after concerns with the load on my stock harness. Post above is spot on, sometimes when I start the bike, my left low beam does not fire, I shut it off and restart and it fires up, this is fading with time. I personally think this is the HIDs control box, not the bulb (just mis firing/poor voltage delivery).

As noted on the forum, the elevation set screws in the head light assembly should be adjusted to raise the lows, I think forum posts suggest 3 turns.

I ordered new LED city lights from brightlights (the small lights on the outside) to help match the HIDs, they came fairly close.

As he mentioned above, I recommend you mount the lights hanging off the bike and power them up as noted for the burn in. Watch them during the burn in time, they can not come in close proximity to your body work as they get very hot (while it's not even safe for children to look at these darn lights uncovered due to their extreme brightness, just mention it in case you have curious kids or pets that might bump something and cause any position shift of the hanging bulb)
