Thanks for the message...My 194's don't look so bright either...but I guess thats because the HID's are so FN Bright.

I have them installed for now but maybe in the off season I will install them under the windscreen like you did.

P.S. Does MRE stand for Army Rations (Meals Ready to Eat)?

Ok...I'm trying to get all of this HID stuff figured out.

From reading the posts, here's what I understand..Is this right? In order to install HID on the '14, I need two H9 bulbs for the low beams and two H11 bulbs for the high beams. I also need a ballast for each set.

What about the wattage for each? Do the 55 watt bulbs get too hot?

I've been to the DDM website but I really don't know what to order; it would be nice if they had an "HID Picker Wizard" or something that would guide the parts selection process.

Now, I've been reading some of what you guys have gone through getting these things installed and, honestly, I don't know if I'm competent to do it. Is this something the Kawi dealer will do? Will they charge two arms and a leg for it?

One more thing: Do the HID bulbs work OK with a headlight modulator should I choose to install one?

H-11 is the low beams.
35 watts is good enough, IMO
Connectors can give someone fits because they are not always put together correctly.
Read my previous post, I had to re-solder some of them.

I only went with lows, that's enough light power IMO

35 watts are very cool temp. wise.

35 watts works really well.
I bought 55 watts second time around - they're brighter but don't have comparison as to how much brighter.

My dealer installed mine second time and did a great job - don't know the exact breakdown on price.

Install isn't too tough but if you don't have experience troubleshooting electrical issues you might want to just hand it over to your dealer.

As far as picking them - it's really no much more than picking the bulb you want H11 for lows H9 for highs, the color temp, and the wattage (I think its an option once you pick the bulb). Don't bother looking for a "motorcycle kit" because we have 2 of each hi and low beam - so we're same as a car.

Good luck - this is a HIGHLY recommended mod - the only downside is... nothing I can think of. :)

While you're in there - go ahead and raise your headlight beams - seems the factory default is conservatively low - nothing worse than riding at night and realizing you're going faster than your visibility!

As far as 35 vs 55 watts, do the 55 watt bulbs get too hot for the enclosure? I'm thinking of going with the higher wattage to allow a higher temp color and still have the desired brightness.

Anybody know of the equation used to compute the lumens of a given wattage and temperature color combination?

I purchased 35 for low and 55 for the hi's... figuring that I wouldn't have to worry about the temp as much with the hi because they would get seldom use! I usually do all my own mods but tend to stay away from the electrical stuff but the HID's I did install myself. the only problem I had was flipping the 1 connector!!!

Basically if you want Hi and low beams you need to buy 2 kits.

I also had to reverse the polarity of the connector that plugs into the factory OEM headlight socket. You could cut the locating tabs of the OEM connector put it would not stay together correctly as designed.
These are not of extreme high quality but for the money, there not that bad. You do need electrical experience considering that you will need to take apart connectors and re-solder joints.

does the ddm set have the seperate ignitors or are the ignitors built into the ballast?

The ignitors are separate.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd go with the 35w over the 55w.

Also, with this company, order low in the temp scale. They tend to run a little high based apon the description. My high beams which are supposed to be a 5K temp mimic 6K but only on the high beams. The low's are nice and white the way they are supposed to be.

yea think im going to do the 35w just need to decide how much i want to pay found a set for $189+ s&h with ignitors built into ballast. and another for $300 this one has just 1 ballast for 2 lights which would be space saving

I went with the slim ballasts that have the ignitors seperate. Space is not a problem if you mount the ballasts to the bracket that holds your turn signal in the mid fairing.

Both bulbs off of one ballast could be a problem. Ballast goes bad on you and you could be in the dark. Not too much fun on a back, unlit road.

I would reccommend the 35w in the 6000k temp from this site: www.xenonbargains.com I have no affiliation with them, I just think they have a great product at a fair price.

With the DDM kits, the ballasts are nice and small. You won't have any difficulty mounting them in the nose of the bike behind the screen. Yes, it's snug but it all fits in there, and for the $$$$ , it's just a bargain. It's your choice, spend a pile of $$$$ for integrated starters and a questionable sized ballast or go with the compact DDM set up.

No heat issues here with the 55w high and low beams.I run em on high beam all day long.6 K seemed very neutral to me-not blue,not yellow.Just a bright white.(DDM's).Four lamps,H9's.Four slimline ballasts.

on the ddms do you guys buy the relay harness also or do you not need the relay on the 14?

i have both high \ low beams from DDM and I didn't use any harness or relay,is plug n play.

i'm thinkin of getting the HID kit for both high and low from ddm, just curious, do the hid bulbs fit in the stock plug and turn connector of the bike?

the DDM kits are literally plug and play....take out the old bulbs, take the new bulbs out of the plastic casing and plug them in and turn. then attach all the connections!!!

ok guys a lil help here please... i spent all day yesterday looking at many different hid sellers and by far DDM is the cheapest im ordering my 2 sets of light today all ready ordered the 2 led markers (blue) i like the bluish headlights so im thinking of the 8000k has anyone ordered these and if so how blue are they? how much light would i lose if i went to the 10,000k? dont do alot of night riding cause of all the wildlife up here(deer,turkeys) would just like the light to somewhat look close to the blue marker lights but i dont even know how blue they r gonna be yet...lol thanks ahead of time for any suggestions

Hey Scott-here's a pic of the 6000K-Ready?.... ...10 K is gonna be blue I'm thinkin.These here are virtually the same color as you see there in the pic.(perhaps a bit brighter however).I ALSO have FOUR HIGH BEAM 55w bulbs in there.The lower "K" numbers are more yellowish-BUT,they give out more light.I don't ride at night either-so I just wanted to be seen during daylight.(DDM's)Those are stock parking lights(194's)as well.The low beams here don't appear to be very bright-HOWEVER,if yer coming at me IN A CAR-the beam angle will NAIL you right proper-gets their attention EVERY TIME!!!!!Kinda like using their natural tendency to "look away"-they target fixate on something other than the lamps-and steer that direction!!!!LOL(hopefully on THEIR side of the road!!!!!)

go with the 10k instead of 8k which are more yellowish...
